The Counter is a play by Meghan Kennedy about an unlikely friendship that develops between a lonely waitress, Katie, and a regular customer, Paul, a retired firefighter, at a small town diner in upstate New York.
Their casual morning conversations evolve into a deep, life-affirming bond as they share secrets, culminating in a shocking request from Paul that forces them both to confront their grief and find hope through human connection. The Counter is known for its intimate, moving, and provocative exploration of loneliness and connection.

As the founder of the first educational STEM program in 1987 Ms. Schwartz is now a national and international speaker about the STEM program as well a a storyteller of the early days of the STEM program. Ms. Schwartz is available in person or through zoom for presentations.
October of 1987, while teaching at School 14 in Troy, Beverly P. Schwartz created a collaborative program with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to help bring the New York State Science syllabus to students in her third-grade class through demonstrations, hands-on lessons, individual projects, and field trips to RPI. Originally called Learn Tech, in 1990, Ms. Schwartz renamed the program Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). After the initial launch in the third-grade classroom, the program was disseminated to other classrooms of School 14. As a result, Ms. Schwartz earned the 1990 Christa McAuliffe Award for New York. The STEM program was filmed by NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, narrated by Ann Curry, and presented by Jane Pauley on November 27, 1990.

Creative Jam is a 6,200 square foot, multi-use facility in the foothills of the Adirondacks of New York. Our space is a beautiful, welcoming, authentic, rustic, Adirondack cabin- complete with rough-cut exposed log walls. The Community Hospice Foundation raises much needed funds to provide complementary therapies(massage, reiki and music) for our ever-growing hospice patients in the 9 counties we serve, as well as all bereavement support (adults and children) Hospice is currently providing services to 750 patients in the 9 counties we serve, one year ago it was only 540.

The Community Hospice is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing high-quality end-of-life care to residents of eight counties covering over 4,000 square miles in Upstate New York State.

Some of the most vulnerable people in our community are those who are struggling with advanced illness, facing the end of life, and recovering from the loss of a loved one. The Community Hospice is committed to serving these people.

While insurance reimbursements cover most costs, they do not fund the programs and services that reach out to care for Hospice patients and families in a comprehensive way. No one is turned away due to financial need.

That is where your active support comes in. You can join the caregiving team by considering a donation to The Community Hospice. Contributions provide funds for community bereavement services, community awareness, educational programs, and special services so that Hospice care is readily available, fully understood, and appropriately utilized by those in need.

The Electric City Chorus and their quartets will present their Annual Show, “Still … Looking for an Echo”, on Saturday, September 26th at 4 pm at their new venue at SUNY Schenectady. Enjoy your favorite pop and rock favorites through the decades. Special guest performers include current Northeast District Champions and BHS international qualifiers Catalyst and Rising Star and 2026 SingUnited (formerly Sweet Adelines) NY/NJ Region Champions 942 (pronounced “Nine forty-two”).
The Electric City Chorus is a men’s a capella singing group based in Schenectady. We have been singing in our unique four-part harmony style since 1944. We strive to sing at the highest quality, to entertain a wide group of audiences with songs from multiple genres and decades, and to experience great fellowship and enjoyment. The Electric City Chorus is a member of the international Barbershop Harmony Society.
Meeting: The chorus rehearses most Tuesdays from 7-9 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Schenectady. There is free parking in the church lot on Chapel Street. We are always looking for male singers and other interested parties to visit and check us out. Experience and reading music are not a prerequisite – we provide music sheets, a mentor and learning tracks.

Come enjoy being Scottish for a day. The Capital District Scottish Games have been a tradition since 1939,,and are attended by 10,000 every year. Kilts and Bagpipes galore, along with an Entertainment Tend with international Celtic Bands. Highland dancers, Highland Athletics (Caber Toss) Scottish Breeds Dog Show and 60 Clans continue all day.
