Throw back to 2017 when co-course designer/assistant race director Matt Acker and I were test biking the infamous (and beloved) Pine River ridge two track that he recommended for the race (so blame him if it kicks your ass!).

Possibly the most magical time of the race as the final riders dig deep to make the 2:30 am cutoff after 20.5 hours of pure grit.

Friday we talked about the mild temps that Michigan usually has on June 27. Today we talk about wind. Why are we going east to west? Well, first of all, winds in Michigan in late June come out of other directions 60% of the time. See the graphic below. A strong wind in the face has never really been a serious factor in this race. In addition, going east to west means you are racing the sunset (an epic goal for 200-mile riders), finishing at a glorious Lake Michigan beach, with ample breweries, restaurants and lodging options as a reward for your big day.
