From 1803-1835, Soule's Tavern served as a civic and cultural center for the growing town of Abingdon. One of five taverns in town, Soule's Tavern was considered the finest, hosting elegant balls, sumptuous dining and even had a resident dance master to teach the latest steps! Sunday morning should start with a crisp 55Β° for brunch! We will have our fireplaces going in every dining room and heaters on the balcony. If you prefer the courtyard, you might want to bring a sweater! πŸπŸ‚

Rufus and Janie Soule operated 'the finest establishment in southwest Virginia' from 1803-1835. On staff at Soule's Tavern was a full-time dance master who taught the latest country dances with an Appalachian twist.

As part of a living history tour of Abingdon and Southwest Virginia, guests enjoyed an afternoon ball with Rufus and Janie Soule at the Southwest Virginia Cultural Center.
