Ever wonder why Oktoberfest is held in September instead of October? 🍻🇩🇪

The original Oktoberfest began in Munich, Germany in 1810 as a wedding celebration for Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. While it originally took place in October, the festival was eventually moved into September because of the warmer weather and longer days — making it much more enjoyable for outdoor festivities, food, music, and of course… beer! 🍺🎶

That same tradition continues today, and we’re excited to bring that festive German spirit right here to downtown Abilene for the 9th Annual Abilene Oktoberfest on September 18 & 19, 2026! 🍂🇩🇪

Even more exciting — Abilene Oktoberfest will kick off the very same weekend Oktoberfest begins in Munich, Germany! 🍻 Prost!
