The main activities are; The great African walk (three day 50km walk), trade fair, medical camp and tourism carnival (evening parties, entertainment and relaxation). The event has an annual theme to raise funds for one or more of WAYEDEFO’s projects. Participants experience exciting moments of our various activities which enshrine a 50 km walk from Thursday to Saturday who upon completion receive
a symbolic certificate. Participants walk a route of 15 km on Thursday, 15km on Friday and 20km on Saturday. Walking is in the mornings. Apart from the walk, there are exciting afternoon and evening activities and entertainment for a variety of choices on the Walk The Pearl festival ground. On the festival you can among others enjoy partying, African traditional music and dance, African dishes, storytelling, campfires, fireworks, poetry, art. There is a variety of artists and entertainment for a variety of choices and a trade fair that runs throughout the whole week. The event aims to attract people from all over the world to Bunyaruguru; a typical African remote village in western Uganda. This area is geographically isolated to its uniqueness by the thick tropical forests on one side and Queen Elizabeth National park on the other, which leaves it one of the most beautiful and unique areas of Uganda with over 50 crater lakes, forests, beautiful views and Queen Elizabeth National Park. Women and Youth Empowerment Development Foundation (WAYEDEFO) is a registered organization committed to the positive empowerment of Mother and Child through life-long and self-sustaining projects in Uganda the event included. Apart from a healthy and meaningful celebration of Africa as a pearl and Uganda as the pearl of Africa the event also attracts partnership of individuals, companies and organisations which seek to wage war against anti-life forces of poverty, disease, illiteracy, famine and violence in African homes especially in the villages.
