Earlier today, I joined over 500 participants at the ZIPA Walkathon, a 5KM walk held in Fumba, Zanzibar. Organized by Zenji Zuri and the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA), the event served as a lead-up to the Zanzibar Investment Summit taking place from 3rd–5th June 2026 at the Golden Tulip Zanzibar Airport Hotel.
The walkathon was graced by Hon. Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, Second Vice President of Zanzibar, and highlighted the immense potential of Fumba as a key growth and investment destination. With major developments underway—including the construction of the AFCON City featuring a 36,000-seat stadium, a state-of-the-art sports complex, medical facilities, and a hotel—the transformation of Fumba is rapidly taking shape. The Government has also invested significantly in infrastructure, including the expansion of the Mazizini–Fumba road into a six-lane highway.
Among those who participated were Hon. Sharrif Sharrif, Hon. Kitwana Bakari Mkumbo, Hon. Riziki Pembe Juma, regional leaders, CCM party officials, and members of the public.
In his remarks, Hon. Hemed emphasized the importance of young people seizing emerging opportunities, maintaining healthy lifestyles, and safeguarding the peace and stability that continue to drive Zanzibar's development.
