最近和一位3D列印機的老闆聊天，他說到現在因為科技發展太快，許多孩子和家長都不認為需要知道最基本知識，只需要會運用現在的科技產品。Zack卻認為所有的產品都來自基本知識，當基本技夠扎實自然能產出應用產品，並且能應付生活基本技能需求。
Zack的課從來不是坊間流行，不是專門比賽用的，專注在基礎工程是希望傳授孩子工程知識的本質，培養孩子多思考自主學習，因此當孩子們帶著家裡的物品來討論可以怎麼更改，Zack總是很開心的提供一些方向。

入門班的主要教學目標是介紹基本會使用到的工具並且讓孩子們感受手感，例如：在相同狀況使用不同的螺絲起子有何不同感受，手動打孔器和電鑽的不同，電鑽不同瓦數能達到的功用如何不同，數位和非數位焊接槍有何不同，如何使用電錶和其他測量工具
The main teaching goal of the introductory class is to introduce the basic tools and let the children feel the difference, such as: the feelings of using different screwdrivers in the same situation, the difference between a manual hole drill and an electric drill, and the different wattage of electric drills. How are the functions achieved different? What are the differences between digital and non-digital welding guns? How to use Muti-meter and other measuring tools

非常認同李家同教授的說法，這就是我們很堅持基礎科學的教學的原因。

新聞報導教育部要實施中小學ＡＩ課程，這使我感到非常困惑，因為ＡＩ究竟是什麼，並沒有確定的定義。這和物理、化學、數學、生物等等，是完全不一樣的。

好像教育部要孩子們玩機器人，認為機器人與ＡＩ有關。其實，孩子們應該知道機器人是完全靠馬達控制的。小孩子懂得馬達是怎麼回事嗎？～以下略～

大陸的一些汽車公司顯示了他們的無人工廠，當然裡面充滿了機械手臂。值得注意的是，這些機械手臂都不是大陸能夠自製的。大陸不是常常展出一些會玩把戲的機器人嗎？為何不能製造這些工廠所需要的機械手臂？要知道，機械手臂不是表演一下就賣得掉的，工業用的機械手臂一定要廿四小時工作，長時間連續工作，這就不容易了。世界上能製造出如此穩定的機械手臂公司並不多。

要製造出相當精密而又耐用的機械手臂，工程師必須對於基礎科學，如物理、化學、數學、生物等等，都了解得非常徹底。相信教育部官員一定也關心我國能否培養出這種工程師，與其要學生玩機器人，不如使他們對基礎科學有興趣。

這學期的初級班第一堂課就從麵包板開始，它是電子元件很重要的輔助測試工具因此孩子們要懂得它的電路概念和如何使用它來測試元件，才能在接下來的每堂課自行測試自己的project
The first lesson of this semester's junior class starts with the breadboard. It is an important auxiliary testing tool for electronic components. Therefore, children must understand its circuit concepts and how to use it to test components in order to be able to use it in every class.

有位家長在Zack剛開始上這門課時主動來詢問，當時聽到她們夫妻要從新竹特地帶孩子北上上課非常驚訝，上課地點只能用簡易的餐桌在家上課，那位媽媽說了句讓我們印象深刻的話：學習不需要在乎地點，即使是家裡的車庫上課也可以。
親愛的家長，謝謝妳當時無條件的信任並讓孩子一路跟著Zack到現在，整個學期不辭辛勞特地北上，Zack感受到妳們的支持也會持續努力跟孩子激盪出更多火花(車庫太熱我們就不要考慮在那邊上課囉)。

曾經有家長談到Zack全英文上課，擔心孩子無法適應他上課的方式和口音，因此我們決定和大家分享一段講解電流如何流動的實際上課影片，讓家長和孩子試聽Zack上課的語速和講解方式，做為自行評估的根據。

動手操作前很重要的理論解釋，通常開始上課的前半段會做當堂課主題的理論講解並搭配影片或是簡易實驗讓孩子了解生活上的應用是甚麼，孩子們在這個時候會發表意見或是和Zack有一些討論，藉著這時候的腦力激盪能更清楚觀察到孩子對這個主題的理解程度。
Theoretical explanation is very important before performing hands-on project. In the first half of the class, the theoretical explanation of the topic of the class will be given and assisted with videos or simple experiments to let the children understand how they are used in daily life. At this section, the children will express their opinions or have some discussions with Zack. Through the brainstorming at this time, Zack can observe children's understanding of each topic.

第二學期的初級班主題是圍繞在機電的應用上，如何建構出一台機器並且安裝電路讓機器可以順利運作，因此，這學期搭配使用的套裝主題難度也提升許多，孩子得先理解機器建構的原理且更需要注意小細節例如安裝角度或是考量線路放哪個位置才不會影響機器運作。例如，這學期解釋了無線電原理並讓孩子自行組裝真正的收音機，也利用幾堂課解釋停車場感應器和閘門運作原理。

This semester is basically on the idea of “How to integrate electromechanical systems” in practical daily life applications.For example, we worked on principles of a radio and the main components for kids to integrate and build a real radio.

上學期初級班的最後一堂課，上了電動升降台原理， Zack利用淺顯易懂的方式解釋經常在生活中可以看見的原理，簡單的器械可以運用在各種狀況，也讓孩子實際動手組裝，別小看組裝這個動作哦，透過組裝不僅可以訓練孩子的專注也可以增加孩子對細節的敏銳度，一不小心可能就造成升降台無法移動呢!!
The last class in last semester was about the principle of electro-mechanical scissor elevator. The scissor elevator project is all about showing how simple machines work in our daily life. Simple machines like the wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, screw, wedge, and lever are used in various ways. These machines can either increase or decrease the forces applied to them, but they don’t change the total amount of work required to complete a task. It’s easier to understand when we can see it in action, so that’s why each project is designed to be interesting, useful, and easy to explain. Seeing is believing after all!!

2023年暑假設計了3個主題為了讓孩子體驗Steam課程，在上課過程中漸漸發現孩子無法在短短15個小時內兼顧工程學與美學，尤其對沒有上過工程類學科的孩子更是辛苦，連工具都不懂得怎麼操作更不可能將電線接到對的位置，每一個主題如果讓有上過課的孩子自己從零到整個完成至少需要40~50小時，否則只能依賴他人協助完成。這讓Zack反思他想帶給孩子的是基本原理概念和應用,而知識需要時間慢慢累積堆疊無法追求速成。因此，今年2024年的暑假決定回到初衷，先來打基本功讓孩子先有基本概念，主題性課程將會安排在進階班繼續進行。
Last summer, Zack designed 3 different projects for children to experience Steam. Therefore, during the classes, he gradually discovered that children cannot handle engineering and art together in 15 hours as engineering beginners. They were not able to operate tools properly, not even to mention connecting wires. This reminds Zack of the original reason for teaching engineering rather than pursuing quick success. Hence, he will remain teaching basic engineering during the summer vacation of 2024.
