It is with sadness that we at Production One Ltd. join the wider music-loving community in Trinidad and Tobago in offering condolences to the family and friends of Kay Alleyne on her passing. As we all commiserate on this significant loss to the well of music talent locally, we collectively share in the grief of the loss of one of the finest voices, if not the finest voice, to ever grace the stages of Jazz Artists On The Greens - JAOTG. She was a featured artist in 2015, taking the stage after Arturo Tappin and sustaining the energy he brought to a damp Greens. And in 2024, she, along with Stephanie Joseph, made up the Tobago Divas, and as they say, "shell down the place." Rain, again, can't stop excellence. Her voice was a powerful reminder that these islands produce world-class vocalists. Ask Chaka Khan, who sang background vocals to Kay in Tobago on "I'm Every Woman"! A moment local jazz audiences will not forget. We first worked with Kay in 2008 for the "Freedom Rain: The UN Concert for Human Rights and Justice" event here in Trinidad, not long after her Digicel Rising Stars win. A powerhouse singer who made audiences aware that greatness was in their presence. Ask Kes!
Her passing today reminds all that our singers are a gift to the world of music, and that careers must be supported by listeners and patrons on these islands. Here today, making magic, gone tomorrow to the ravages of disease. We offer comfort to her family at this time and look forward to a future when her name and performances will be an inspiration to singers everywhere. May Kay Alleyne rest in peace, and her legacy rise forever.
