The second “Turkish Film Festival New Zealand”, will be taking place between 15 April-15 May 2017. We endeavour to present a memorable event including exhibitions, speakers, performances and films. Prominent Turkish personalities and academics will travel to New Zealand for the festival to take part in the event. In total, we will be screening eight carefully selected movies in Wellington and Auckl
and. We will present a traditional Turkish Shadow Show at Gala event and set up workshops at Auckland and Massey University. The audience will have an opportunity to have conversations with some of the directors and producers, before and after the movies are screened. In additional to the film festival, we are excited to be the co-creating a new feature film entitled ‘Johnnies and Mehmet’s’, which we endeavour to produce alongside a New Zealand production company. During our time at the festival, our intention is to make a further progress in our initial talks with the New Zealand Film Commission to take part in the development of this project. With one and a half million residents, Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. The city is home to various migrant communities from all over the world creating great cultural diversity. Auckland Art Gallery will host our Gala night event. Academy Cinemas in Auckland Library in the heart of the City will be screening the films. We will have workshops of traditional Turkish Puppet theatre as a proto-cinema. In co-operation with Panuku Development, “Wrecks Of the Dardanelles Campain” Exhibition By Savaş Karakaş will be presented at Te Wero Island in the heart of the Auckland waterfront. After our time in Auckland, the festival moves on to Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. This relatively small but active city is the social, cultural and political hub of the country. Wellington city is the largest of a number of closely linked cities and districts that make up the Wellington region. The region overall is home to almost half a million people. The city is fondly nicknamed ‘Wellywood’, as it is the base of the well established New Zealand cinema industry. Peter Jackson and his production companies have created great films such as ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘King Kong’ and many other prominent productions in Wellington. Due to the scale of the city, while a production is in the process, it is quite likely that you may bump into props been transported while you take a walk around the city! The New Zealand Film Commission, Creative New Zealand and Te Papa (the national museum), are based in Wellington. International film personalities also live near or around the city. Wellington has a culturally diverse, vibrant and artistic atmosphere. We have chosen three fantastic venues in Wellington to showcase the festival; the iconic and historical Paramount Cinema on Courtney Place will host our movie screenings and Sir Peter Jacksons Great War Exhibition will be the home for “Wrecks Of the Dardanelles Campain” Exhibition. Nga Taonga Sound and Vision will be screening the documentary “Echoes from the Deep” by Mr Savaş Karakaş. Turkish Film Festival New Zealand will be an annual event. Every year we will bring new movies, film personalities, artistic and cultural entertainment from Turkey, generating an exciting and educational event.
