GIS-IDEAS enters its 23rd year……

The first GIS-IDEAS was organized from September 25th to 28th, 2002 at Hanoi University of Mining & Geology in Hanoi, Vietnam. It focused on the integration of Information Technology tools for the development of spatial databases and the utilization of spatial data for mathematical modelling and computer simulation of processes related to our natural and social environment. The main interest - besides general topics in Geoinformatics - was the process of creating, managing, distributing, sharing, and analysing digital spatial data.
The symposium was organized under the aegis of the Japan-Vietnam Geoinformatics Consortium. The Japan-Vietnam Geoinformatics Consortium (JVGC) was founded in 2001 to promote co-operation in the advancements of information technology for theoretical and practical solutions of problems arising in geosciences. JVGC is now AGILE (Association of Geoinformatics Laboratories for Earth-Sciences)
What started off as a partnership between two nations has now spread not only to other Asian countries like Thailand, China and India but also to non Asian countries.
