Roman Borisov made his Asia Debut at Victoria Concert Hall with a programme spanning Beethovenโ€™s Pathรฉtique, Schumannโ€™s Humoreske, and Rachmaninoffโ€™s Piano Sonata No. 2 โ€” taking us on a captivating journey through contrasting shades, colours and textures, performed on the magnificent C. Bechstein D 282 Concert Grand, the perfect stage companion for the evening.

From the dramatic intensity of Beethoven to the shifting colours of Schumann and the expansive sound world of Rachmaninoff, the programme came alive through Borisovโ€™s masterful storytelling.

And the evening didn't end there! Roman delighted the audience with three encores:

It allows inner voices to emerge, harmonies to remain clear, and phrases to retain their shape even when the texture becomes complex.

This matters most in repertoire where the music is not carried by melody alone.

In Bach, every line matters.
In Mozart, balance is everything.
In Beethoven, structure must remain visible through power.
In Debussy, colour only works when clarity remains beneath the atmosphere.

A transparent piano does not flatter by covering the music in excessive warmth. It gives the pianist something far more valuable: the ability to hear honestly, shape precisely, and reveal the truth of what is written.

Because the finest instruments do not simply sound beautiful. They let the music speak at its intended tone.
