The Italian division of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics of Universiti Malaya, in partnership with Mufant (Museum of Science Fiction and the Fantastic of Turin), is organizing an event to honour Emilio Salgari, the most renowned Italian adventure novelist.
Emilio Salgari, who lived between the 19th and 20th centuries, is renowned nationally as well as internationally for his series of novels featuring the Malay pirate Sandokan as the protagonist.
Sandokan, a man of noble descent, was usurped of his kingdom in Borneo, and his family was exterminated through deception. As a result, Sandokan became a pirate to defend the people of the Malay islands against the colonizers.
The tragic life of the author and the extraordinary adventures of the magnificent character he created will be the focus of the event.
