Singapore United strongly condemns the racist and xenophobic attacks/comments against any foreigners or minorities. If you don’t like policies, take it up at the ballot box, don’t take it out on people just trying to make a living, as many of our forefathers did coming to this island generations ago.

Blaming a particular country, vilifying their people and stereotyping anyone who comes from there is disgraceful and downright ignorant. The same thing is happening in the US not just to our people but Asians in general. And yet many here are shocked by it but don’t see the irony. Let’s not play up to the ugly Singaporean cliche that some accuse us of.

We’re better than that.

More than 3 years ago, Singapore United (way before it became a trending hashtag) was started to celebrate our country’s wonderful diversity through sport. And one of our biggest supporters has been the Bangladeshi community. A community that has, in recent weeks, come under attack on different fronts. Through no fault of their own. No-one deserves this. There is no 'them' and 'us'. We're all in this Covid-19 crisis together.

Apart from donating, we wanted to do something else to help. So for those that don’t know, the guy below is Mushfiqur Rahim, a member of the Bangladesh cricket team and one of the biggest sports stars in a country where cricket is like a religion. Many thanks to him for doing this at short notice and to Mahfujur Rahman & Zahid Chowdhury for arranging it. If you're part of, or familiar with the Bangladeshi community and related NGOs, please share this. We hope it will give some fleeting comfort and raise morale in these difficult times. Stay strong guys. Sensible, compassionate Singaporeans support you too.

In light of the latest round of measures to combat the spread of Covid-19, we will not be organising the Singapore United Football Fiesta this year. Whilst we are disappointed that the country’s most diverse Football tournament won’t happen this time round, there is obviously far more at stake and now, more than ever, it’s important that we all come together (at a safe distance of course). And that’s why it’s very heartening to see that is trending locally - the very values we have always espoused. Together we are stronger - precisely why we came up with the name Singapore United.

Stay safe and keep healthy. We look forward to seeing you in 2021.

SINGAPORE — With immediate effect until June 30, all events and gatherings of 250 or more participants must be suspended, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Friday (March 20). The stricter social distancing measures are to reduce the risk of further transmission of Covid-19 here.
