Singapore International Festival of Arts SIFA 2026 Let's Play! 15 May – 30 May Today, the highly anticipated festival is a high point on Singapore’s arts and cultural calendar.

The Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) presents captivating and diverse works across theatre, music, dance, film and visual arts. First launched as the Singapore Festival of Arts in 1977, the festival has gone through several evolutions and inspired generations of arts lovers and practitioners. Under the helm of Festival Director Natalie Hennedige from 2022-2024, SIFA continues its festival mission to champion the creation and presentation of Singaporean and international works.

Some of you may remember 𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 from SIFA 2025, or perhaps its earlier beginnings at SIFA 2024's works-in-progress platform, 𝘛𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸.

Join Nine Years Theatre co-founders Nelson and Mia as they reflect on a work that began at SIFA 2024, evolved into a full SIFA 2025 commission, and went on to travel from Singapore to Milan, where it received the Special Mention of the Public Jury Award – and most recently, Festival Off Avignon in France.

𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 is proof that local theatre can resonate far beyond our shores when artists are given the space, support and opportunity to grow. Arts House Group is proud that platforms such as SIFA can help new works develop from early ideas into productions that reach audiences in Singapore and around the world.✨

Initially interested in the literary arts, Tze Chien fell in love with theatre and never looked back. With decades of experience behind him, he is now the individual overseeing the creative side of the Festival he grew up with. 
 
From audience member to commissioned artist to Festival Director – Tze Chien’s SIFA story is one of coming full circle.

Singaporeans were "cultural orphans" who lacked a stable foundation to build a sense of identity – this was a concern of Kuo Pao Kun, an artist active as far back as the 1960s. He looked to the arts as a way for a unique culture and identity, be it individual, communal or even nationwide to be formed.

To achieve that, Pao Kun championed new voices, alternative art forms and spaces where artists could experiment and grow. His influence shaped generations of artists – including our very own festival director – and continues to resonate across Singapore’s arts landscape.

Through SIFA Digital, Past Present Future: A Series of Documentary Screenings, hear personal stories and reflections from those who were deeply moved by his work, generosity and vision. Their memories offer a glimpse into this deeply human and generous man, and was one of the earliest pioneers of a uniquely Singaporean performing arts scene.
