My foray into ceramic. First attempt.

Artist Statement – Walk The Talk

This ceramic hiking boot is a replica of a worn leather one I’ve carried with me—literally and emotionally—for 36 years. It bears the imprint of a life lived in a beautiful country, but it also holds the quiet weight of pain, silence, and survival. Every crease in the original boot told a story I wasn’t always ready to face.

Now, in clay, it becomes something else. Still grounded in memory, but no longer burdened by it. In transforming the boot, I’ve given myself permission to move forward—heavier in wisdom, lighter in heart.

I’ve cheekily branded the piece ‘Elenora’ , along with the year I was born—a reclaiming of identity, and a reminder that even the most personal stories can be rewritten with tenderness and grit.

At the heel, I embossed the words Walk The Talk—a message to myself, and maybe to others. It’s a call to live more honestly, more openly, and to step into spaces that feel true.

This boot will never walk, but I will. And I hope it takes me somewhere full of beauty, and people who make the journey worthwhile.

Happy to share that Saint Teresa of Calcutta has found a home in Taiping, Perak. Where? Wait for my update!

Created at the tail end of the pandemic when I was feeling low and helpless watching newsreels of deaths and forced shutdown of the world. Many lost their jobs.

The feelings brought back memories of the sight which I had almost missed of a naked man lying in a shallow pool of murky waters in a busy town in Calcutta 40 years ago when I was on a backpacking trip. Hence the choice of background (Bullseye) stained glass.

Here, the saint is barely holding on to a broken heart with multi coloured border. The cracks allow light to shine through the broken image of the viewer.

As with all in life, this too has passed. Life goes on. The world has shifted and adjusted to new norms.

Hello from Sofia, Bulgaria.

We arrived after lunch yesterday.
Guess who we bumped into on the street last night?
Former president of Bulgaria who was responsible of bringing Bulgaria into NATO n EU. The humble man Petar Stoyanov was chatting with his friend, handsome contemporary writer n playwright Zachary Karabashliev. Google them!

Of course we didn’t know who they were. We were taking a walk after a lovely dinner and I asked them a favour to take a photo of Susan and I sitting with sculptures of 2 historical father and son writers whom we didn’t know too. I just wanted to mimick their pose. 😂
