Teochew Coming of Age 出花园

Teochew Coming of Age 出花园 “出花园“ is a ceremony that is unique to the Teochews community. Extraodinary opportunity to witness the rituals associated with a Teochew’s coming of age.

The Kityang Youth Wing will be organizing a traditional Teochew Coming of Age Ceremony (known as "Chu Huay Hng") on the 16th Aug 2015, 10 am at the Singapore Kityang Huay Kwan. We welcome everyone of Kityang or Teochew descent (born in 2001 or earlier) to join us for this collective Coming of Age Ceremony.

“Cu Huay Hng” is a ceremony that is unique to the Teochews. The KityangYouth Wing is organizing this ceremony with the primary
objective of continuing our cultural heritage. This is also a good opportunity for our community to witness the rituals
associated with a Teochew’s coming of age. These rituals pay tribute to the care that parents and elders have placed on the child and allows the child to understand the roles and responsibilities of an adult. Based on our tradition, upon performing ceremony, the child will be treated as an adult by the community and expected to behave as one.

The 5th 'Coming of Age' ceremony, organized by the Singapore Kityang Huay Kwan, will be held on Saturday, 26th August this year from 8.30am to 2.30pm at Chui Huay Lim Club.
