TRANSGHARB'16 DAY ZERO
The staff at Hotel Mônaco already know that they're hosting a very
special group by this time of the year - Transgharb's group!
These guests check-in carrying strange oversized luggage, made of
cardboard in some cases, like immigrants from the olden days. They
will then pull their beautiful superlight bikes out of those boxes,
leaving the hotel staff in awe. Some of the staff already know by name
those riders who have ridden with us before. There's bikes all over
the place, and the strangest thing is, these tourists will visit
downtown Faro or the beach without needing to take the transfer bus...
they'll just ride their bikes! Their friendliness and good vibes make
it impossible not to like such special guests!
At around 4pm, registration started, and some riders got their first
surprise when they noticed they were getting a plate with their name
on it instead of a number - that's right, because in Transgharb you'll
never be just a number!
At 8pm, dinner started without Mário Gamito who arrived at the end,
just in from the off-road Morocco Rally!
In Transgharb '16 we have riders from Belgium, The Netherlands,
Switzerland, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, and for the first time the USA.
A briefing, an introduction to Transgharb, and some relevant info
about how this event works quickly got us to 11pm - time for bed,
because tomorrow's stage all the way to Loulé is already the real
deal!
TRANSGHARB'16 DIA ZERO
Os funcionários do hotel Mônaco já sabem que nesta altura do ano recebem um grupo especial!
O grupo do transgharb.

Dear friends,

Now that Transgharb'15 edition is completed and left all of us with the greatest memories, our focus is to take the "Transgharb" experience to more bike lovers and I can tell you that the 2016 edition will be even more amazing!

As usual, the Transgharb Epic Race will take place in October, but in April 2016 we are launching the Transgharb Fun, a families and friends bike tour that will cross the Algarve during 7 days from hotel to hotel.

The Transgharb Fun can be done on MTB bikes or road bicycles. Different tracks but the same philosophy: to make you feel at home!

As you know, we’re passionate about cycling and all the years of cycling throughout the Algarve tracks and roads made us intimate with them and we truly believe we can offer a different Algarve in each edition.

The best news is that registrations are open! Just visit our new website ( www.bikingalgarve.com ) and book your cycling week with us according to your preferences!

Hope to see you soon in the Algarve!

STAGE 7 (Saturday) Silves-Finish Official Report
86 KM 1150 CLIMBING (changed due to the weather conditions)

The last stage day of Transgharb witnessed the cotton clouds getting darker and inevitably the race was blessed with rain. For safety reasons, the organization decided to neutralize the stage. And with no time pressure to complete the stage, the racers followed the track along the 90km foreseen for that day, with a major highlight for the Algibre singe track that lead the group to the Falesia beach.
At the finish line, we could see the joy and an immense smile on all the finishers’ faces, who were so happy and proud for having accomplished this 7 day challenge with success.
This was a really great group of athletes and every minute we spent organising this race was well worth it! We were a real family for seven days and each smile will be remembered for ever!
At 6pm the prize award ceremony took place where each biker got his/her FINISHER t-shirt, the trophy, the diploma and a bottle of champagne to celebrate Transgharb 2015.
All riders did amazingly well, but our winners deserve a special mention:
Elite Men: Bram Sayes (1st), Casper Kaars Sijpesteijn (2nd) and Pieter Vaes (3rd).
Masters Men Hans Planckaert (1st), Daniel Hoedemaekers (2nd) and Mark Van Gorp (3rd).
And now, last but not least, Vladi Pokobova, the only woman of the race that won her well-deserved 1st place for keeping up with group from stage 1 to 7.
Congratulations to you all. Can’t wait for Transgharb 2016!

STAGE 6 (Friday) Sagres-Silves Official Report
107.50KM 1650 CLIMBING

Watching the sunrise from this hotel in Sagres was amazing, and we soon realised this would be a sunny day with clear skies!
At 10:01am we left Sagres heading for Silves. This stage would be more than 100 km long, and the last kilometres would be the hardest.
We started off riding along the Algarve's south coast for several kilometres, and later on we entered the Algarve's mountains once again towards Bravura dam, one of this stage's most spectacular spots, where we rode for many kilometres along the shores!
We went past the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve motor race track, and ended the stage by the canals of river Arade, in an area of single tracks that left everyone delighted!
The arrival took place by the hotel bar and swimming pool!
In the evening we had our last briefing, and we felt nostalgia starting to set in as another fantastic week draws to a close, especially when we had to check the schedule for the riders' return transfers!
After dinner everyone got to taste "medronho" and "melosa" liqueurs, made from the Algarve's typical arbutus berry!
