PROCE5SING_1.0 Exhibition

The idea of architecture as an exploratory process has been the foundation of both theoretical and practical thinking, allowing the studio’s creativity to extend into other creative fields and digital design systems. The exhibition PROCE5SING_1.0 embodies this need of the studio to experience digital exploration as a way of analysing and reflecting on contemporaneity - the act of thinking about today. It is a practice rooted in the use of new digital tools and processes beyond standard conventions. In the coming weeks, we will share images that explore models, photographies, and human interaction within our phygital universe.
_

About the exhibition:
An ethical and aesthetic exploration of emerging digital creative paradigms, where artificial intelligence, robotics, and regenerative computational systems converge to create new concepts in architecture and design.

Digital processes in architecture

In 2013, Santiago Baptista (then Director of Arqa magazine) and Paula Melâneo (Editorial Coordinator) invited Alexandra Paio and le_Brimet, at the time lecturers at ISCTE and Universidade Lusófona, to join issue No. 106 of the magazine, dedicated to the theme Digital Processes.

The purpose of this edition was to map the emerging landscape of digital process applications in architecture, bringing together contributions from national and international studios, as well as research centers and universities. The issue presented interviews, essays, and projects that reflected the state of the art at an important moment of global cultural and economic transformation.

Twelve years later, le_Brimet, founder of Spectroom and curator of the PROCE5SING exhibition and talks, brings together the team that shaped a theme which, at the time, was still in an embryonic phase but which today—driven by robotics and artificial intelligence—has become unavoidable.

The first talk, Digital Processes in Architecture, aims to revisit this trajectory, analysing the past, present, and future paths of technology applied to architecture and design. The conversation will focus on how these tools have transformed, and will continue to transform, the ways of thinking, designing, and building. Bringing together guests from different disciplinary fields, the session also seeks to intersect architectural, pedagogical, technological, and cultural perspectives.

Gencork booth at Maison & Objet Paris 2025

Each façade was created as a portal leading to different sensory experiences. With regenerative patterns and AI-powered c(AI)rcles, the project reinforces its collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects. Moving from the whole to the details, it directly connects to the multimedia core of the space, offering an immersive experience where cork transforms and evolves throughout the scenographic setting.

CORKtography, by GENCORK with creative direction by SPECTROOM, maps the brand's key projects in several cities worldwide. It creates a global network forming an exploratory circuit, connecting the remarkable environments where SOFALCA’s expanded black cork is transformed through (re)generative design and sustainability

In an increasingly digital society, finding a balance between opposites—digital and physical—becomesmore crucial, as both should coexist in our social interactions. To promote the convergence of the material and immaterial, Gencork, under the creative direction of Spectroom, introduces the concept of CORKtography: a mapping of architectural interior projects of various scales and typologies that best define the brand's philosophy. This philosophy is characterized by an endless pursuit of symbiosis between (Re)Generative design and mathematics, geometry, biomimetics, and artificial intelligence.

This mapping is done following an analysis of several projects conducted in different latitudes, exploring the unique properties of Sofalca's black cork agglomerate. The environments that stood out, both in public and private spaces, for their technical, creative, and socioeconomic components are selected and cataloged on a map available on the digital platform.
The first CORKtography will take place in the vibrant city of London during the London Design Festival, one of the world’s premier design events.

Generation Generative
How to design in the age of AI

In the latest issue of FRAME, [SPECTROOM] was recognized as one of the notable, tech-forward creative offices ('Ones to Watch'), shaping the new generation of designers and architects who combine technology, creativity, robotics, and AI in an innovative and ethical way.

FRAME 157 delves deep into the critical factors the design industry must confront in a future dominated by AI, extended realities and other cutting-edge technologies.

Read some of our statements:

" The creative lab is not confined by typologies or sectors, but rather practises what the team dubs Artcretechture – ART + CREativity + TECHnology + architecTURE’. Within their work, creative areas are in a constant and seamless dialogue. "

" Another important message conveyed by Spectroom’s body of work is the fact that technology and nature don’t have to exist at odds with each other. In fact, Le Brimet believes in their synergy. His practice
works towards harmonizing biological laws and generative design techniques."

Floor Kuitert

"I believe it to be possible to create a direct connection between both, because many technological principles rise from the interpretation and resources of nature, and nature can be analysed and preserved using technology."

"We aim to humanize algorithms, controlling the output rationally and ethically, contributing to a more conscious design focused on human needs."

The Principles of [Re] Generative Design
By Le_Brimet [ SPECTROOM ]
Shaping Ideas to Reality
Arcada 2024

This inaugural lecture marks the start of a series of national and international presentations that will be conducted over the next two years. These events aim not only to share my personal experiences from the last 10 years but also to showcase my creative process, applied in my office, Spectroom, and in several international collaborations. In practice, "The Principles of [Re]Generative Design" is a compendium of actions, creative and exploratory processes, summarized in ten topics, focused on materialware, software, hardware, and humanware, and their convergence with contemporary social, economic, and cultural contexts.

Thank you, ESMAD students, for this invitation. It was a pleasure to share my vision with the future generation of designers.

FRAME magazine, one of the leading design publications sold in 77 countries, highlighted designers and offices worldwide in its latest edition who are developing innovative work in the areas of design + technology - 'The Ones to Watch.' This new generation of creative minds embraces technology, experiments with new sustainable materials, explores new production processes, and defines new paradigms for contemporary design.

We are excited to share that SPECTROOM is part of this group of pioneers and visionaries. You can read the article and Le Brimet’s interview (10 pages), which describe the ideas connected with (Re)Generative Design, artificial intelligence, digital manufacturing, robotics, and sustainability. These concepts define the practice of SPECTROOM, with a forward-looking vision.

In this contemporary and diverse world, it is increasingly important to understand the difference between working on the margins and being marginalized. Our goal is to uncover the potential of digital tools as 'creative weapons' to transform pixels into atoms and virtual processes into tangible objects and physical environments. We have proven that generative design can manifest physically, serving practical, social, cultural, economic, and environmental purposes. International recognition has arrived.

Read the interview in our bio.
Special thanks to FRAME magazine, Mira Huussen, Floor Kuitert, and Anouk Haegens.
A special thanks to the SPECTROOM team (Rafael Morais and Ana Santos) for their unconditional support, dedication, and enthusiasm.
And thank you to all those who have believed in and supported us over the past years.
