“Work Can Be a Source of Identity, Meaning and Fulfilment.”

In a recent interview with , António Pedro Pinto, Founder & CEO of Happiness Camp, reflects on why work should be more than a source of income.

The conversation explores a question that is becoming increasingly relevant for organisations around the world: what happens when work stops being something we simply do and becomes something that shapes our identity, purpose and sense of belonging?

At a time when burnout, disengagement and disconnection continue to rise, António argues that wellbeing should no longer be treated as an employee benefit, but as a fundamental part of how organisations are designed and led.

These are exactly the conversations driving Happiness Camp and why thousands of leaders, researchers, brands and changemakers come to Porto to discuss the future of work through a more human lens.

In a new article by , The Reset, the latest campaign by Happiness Camp, is highlighted as a provocative reflection on one of the biggest challenges facing modern organisations: workplace disconnection.

Directed by award winning filmmaker Phoebe Bourke and featuring actors from productions such as Black Mirror, Doctor Who and Good Omens, the film uses satire to expose the growing gap between corporate narratives and the reality experienced by many professionals.

More than a campaign, The Reset is part of a broader conversation about leadership, culture, burnout and human sustainability, themes that continue to drive Happiness Camp and its mission to rethink the future of work.

Work is changing faster than most organisations can process it.

AI is reshaping industries. Attention spans are collapsing. Leadership is being questioned. People are more connected than ever, yet increasingly disconnected from each other. And many organisations are still trying to solve deeply human challenges with outdated ways of working.

These are not isolated conversations. They are signals of a profound shift in how people experience work, ambition, purpose and human connection.

That is why Happiness Camp exists.

On September 24, Porto will once again bring together global leaders, researchers, brands and changemakers for Europe’s Largest Human Sustainability Conference, a space created to explore the questions organisations can no longer afford to ignore.

From AI and human performance to belonging, trust, culture and communication, these are the conversations shaping what comes next.

What actually shapes the way people experience work today?

That was the question explored in a recent national television interview featuring Sílvia Bandeira, Professor and Coordinator at , following the study developed in partnership with Happiness Camp and on humanisation and workplace experience.

The conversation explored something that is becoming increasingly clear across organisations: people do not only value salary or productivity. They value leadership over hierarchy, empathy over performative culture, autonomy, trust and the feeling of being genuinely seen and heard at work.

One of the key insights from the study was that around 20% of workplace experience is directly linked to organisational behaviour, including leadership, communication, ethics and empathy.

Because the way organisations behave shapes much more than performance.

It shapes how people experience work itself.

Happiness Camp 2026 has officially been granted the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic, António José Seguro.

One of the highest institutional distinctions granted in Portugal to initiatives recognised for their national relevance, strategic impact and contribution to society.

For us, this is more than a recognition.

It is a powerful signal that human sustainability, leadership, mental health, culture and the future of work are no longer peripheral conversations.

They are defining conversations for organisations, leaders and society.

What started as an idea has become an international platform bringing together leaders, companies, universities, institutions and some of the world’s most influential organisations to rethink the future of work.

This distinction reinforces the credibility, authority and institutional relevance of Happiness Camp as it continues to position Portugal at the centre of a global conversation.

Happiness Camp 2026.
Held under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic.

The future of work is being decided here.

Something about this feels familiar.

A conversation that isn’t really a conversation.
A culture that talks about wellbeing, but forgets to listen.
A workplace where everyone is “thriving” while quietly running on empty.
