The XIX PaΓ§osβ Premium International Music Competition 2026 is pleased to announce Jill Lawson as a member of its International Jury.
With an international artistic career spanning Europe, the United States and Asia, Jill Lawson is recognised for her refined musicianship, expressive depth and commitment to artistic excellence. Born in Mexico, raised in Belgium and currently based in Portugal, the Portuguese-American pianist brings a unique multicultural perspective to her artistic work.
Awarded in several prestigious national and international competitions, she has distinguished herself through performances marked by natural musical communication and a strong connection with audiences. Her studies took her from Antwerp to Fiesole, Amsterdam and the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, where she completed advanced studies under the guidance of renowned musicians including Leon Fleisher and Ellen Mack.
Alongside an active concert career as a soloist and chamber musician, Jill Lawson has collaborated with distinguished performers and ensembles, maintaining a particular dedication to chamber music. She is a member of the MPQ Quarteto de Cascais and forms the acclaimed Lawson & Lawson Duo with violinist Eliot Lawson. Her artistic contributions are also reflected in a number of recordings dedicated to Portuguese and international repertoire.
As an educator, she regularly gives masterclasses, serves on competition juries and mentors young pianists whose achievements have earned recognition in important competitions. Since 2024, she has been a faculty member at ANSO in Lisbon, continuing her commitment to the development of future generations of musicians.
