Ten solo presentations across the city focus on individual designers, bringing together works from different collections and moments in their practice.

For some, these read as a retrospective, reflecting on an established body of work. For others, they offer a closer view into a language still taking shape.

From Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance’s Made In Situ seven-collection retrospective, to Emmanuel Babled’s takeover of Galeria Tapeçarias de Portalegre, and Bernardo Figueiredo’s presentation at QuartoSala, each Spotlight creates space to engage more deeply with the work.

Alongside these, a new generation of practices unfolds across the city — from Vasco Fragoso Mendes and Miguel Soeiro to Further Ther, Gonçalo Campos and Graça Pereira Coutinho.

A place to create, reflect and connect deeply rooted in the soul of Alentejo.

is a place designed for rest, creativity and exchange. Surrounded by olive groves, cork and holm oaks, this historic estate finds new life through interiors and outdoor spaces designed by , where contemporary design dialogues with rural heritage, traditional architecture and handcrafted details.

Sam Baron’s vision balances old and new, local and international, simplicity and comfort, creating an environment where creativity feels both grounded and expansive. Whitewashed walls, black stone floors, vaulted ceilings and carefully curated works by Portuguese artists and designers shape an atmosphere that invites time to slow down.

Beyond being a place to stay, O Val is a creative platform. Their retreats function as collaborative short-term residencies, inviting Portuguese and international artists to reinterpret the Alentejo landscape, crafts and ancestral knowledge through their own lens.

Below are some of the upcoming Creative Retreats:

• From Traditional Alentejo Blankets to Purl Inlay Colourwork (Feb 27–Mar 1, 2026) with Filipa Carneiro
• Spring/Summer Portuguese Home-Cooked Recipes (Apr 17–19, 2026) with Isabel Guedes de Queiroz
• Cloth, Calm & Stitch (May 7–10, 2026) with Aitor Saraiba
• Alma Flor – Floral Painting Retreat (May 26–Jun 1, 2026) with Victoria Johnson

𝗔 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗗𝗪 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 at , a newly opened space in Lisbon that will soon be available for events.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous hosts Sérgio and Catharina, and the entire team at , for welcoming us and sharing their journey. From founding and running their architecture studio, to navigating the challenges of managing projects in Portugal, and bringing moldo studios to life.
Formerly a warehouse for antique furniture, the space has been beautifully renovated, featuring striking arches and a long ramp-like hallway that guides visitors through its different areas. They shared their vision of turning the space into a platform for future events, exhibitions, and concerts.

As speakers, we invited the newly founded community, an initiative that connects and promotes designers with roots in Portugal’s former colonies.
We were joined by some of the founders , , and the duo Iany Gayo & Lucrezia Papillo behind . They gave us a preview of their upcoming first exhibition together with Miguel Saboya and other makers during LDW26.

Thank you for generously sharing your perspectives on what it means to create as designers shaped by diverse cultural backgrounds in Portugal, how these experiences inform and strengthen your practices, and how you continue to nurture a meaningful dialogue between Lisbon and your places of origin.

𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 | Between storage and storytelling. Cabinets are more than containers, they organise daily life while quietly shaping the atmosphere of a space. Whether as a bookshelf or a place to hang our clothes, these cabinets reveal different ways of storing everyday objects and personal curiosities, balancing what is displayed and what remains hidden.

Rooted in woodworking traditions and refined through contemporary practice, these pieces explore materiality, joinery and surface as expressive tools. From solid wood to mixed materials and experimental steel constructions, each cabinet reflects a careful dialogue between function, craft and authorship, designed to anchor interiors while evolving with the lives around them.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 I , founder of , creates design and ceramic pieces that bring the outside in through forms drawn directly from nature.

His practice begins at the source. He sources his own clay, creates his own glazes, and crafts the tools that shape his textures. Before a piece even starts, an entire world is built around it, making the process as important as the final object.
Approaching clay with curiosity, much like a child, his journey is marked by experimentation, failure, and discovery. It is a continuous transformation from raw material to final form, driven by research and intuition.

He works between two meaningful spaces. One is , the art school where he studied for four years and now assists in teaching, continuing his research surrounded by students, mentors, and nature. The other is , a creative hub for elderly women, where daily moments of sewing, conversation, laughter, and making foster a sense of family that brings warmth and energy into his work.

As a young designer from a different background, one of his biggest challenges is exploring beauty through functional objects that can live in stores while remaining true to his process and values.

In 2025, he was one of twenty young designers selected to exhibit at MUDE during LDW’s YDG Open Call, a recognition that gave him the confidence to establish his own studio and continue creating, with the hope of inspiring others along the way.
