First dive in Porto Santo. First stop: the Madeirense.

On 14 October 2024, Nathalie Lasselin was already underwater, testing her camera setup on one of Porto Santo's best-known wrecks as part of the Diving Talks 2024 pre-show trip.

Alongside Jill Heinerth, Stefan Panis and Christine Regent West, Nathalie joined us to discover Madeira and Porto Santo before everyone headed to Lisbon for Diving Talks.

Four remarkable underwater storytellers. One Atlantic destination. And four very different ways of seeing and interpreting what Portugal has beneath the surface.

That's what BEYOND THE TALKS | DISCOVERING PORTUGAL UNDERWATER — by Portugal Dive is all about.

These trips aren't simply something we organise before the conference. They're an opportunity to introduce some of the world's most experienced divers, explorers, photographers and filmmakers to the underwater Portugal we know and love — and then see it again through their eyes.

In 2026, a new group of Diving Talks travellers will head to Graciosa, the White Island of the Azores, for the next chapter.

And Nathalie, we're already looking forward to the next opportunity to show you more of Portugal, the Azores and Madeira — underwater. There is still plenty left to discover. 🌊🇵🇹

In this edition of Let's Talk About Diving, meet David Caldwell.

A veteran dive industry professional, technical diving educator, expedition leader, and shipwreck explorer, David has spent nearly four decades pushing the boundaries of underwater exploration. From cave and mine diving to globally recognized shipwreck discovery and identification projects, his work has helped uncover and document pieces of maritime history that many believed would remain lost forever.

As a NAUI Course Director Trainer and Technical Examiner, David has also dedicated much of his career to developing the next generation of dive professionals and technical divers.

At Diving Talks 2026, David will share insights from a lifetime of exploration, expedition leadership, wreck discovery, and the lessons learned from some of the most challenging underwater projects in the North Atlantic and beyond.

His work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, National Geographic, The Guardian, and many others, while his cinematography has helped bring underwater stories to global audiences through documentaries such as Netflix's The Deepest Breath.

What makes Diving Talks unique is its immersive environment—and yes, we know "immersive" is an overused word in the events industry, but in our case it's quite appropriate. After all, we are divers. More importantly, it describes exactly what happens when hundreds of people who share the same passion spend three days exchanging ideas, experiences, and visions for the future of the underwater world.

At Diving Talks, networking isn't scheduled—it happens naturally. In the corridors, over coffee, during dinner, between presentations, and long after the last talk of the day. The stage starts the conversation; the community keeps it going.
