We all have people who’ve influenced our musical perspective. Some are family members, friends, some are mysterious figures who trigger within us a state known as “suspension of disbelief”. Dettmann is one of these people.

He grew up in the former GDR, in a place where the records he craved, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Front 242, were impossible to find, so he took it upon himself to distribute these and other favourite releases from his hometown of Pößneck. By 96 he was running a small record shop from home with steady stream of music lovers riding along.

The rest of his story is sort of mythical. A friend submitted a mixtape on his behalf to OstGut and, shortly after, one of the club’s founders called him up. Within months, he was a resident at the club that would become Berghain. He complemented his DJing with a job at HardWax, which allowed him a fresh stream of music, helped curate the shelves for other DJs at the store and brought a wide spectrum of new sounds to Berlin. For a decade he worked alongside DJ Pete, Shed and Cassy, crossing paths with pioneers like Carl Craig or Jeff Mills. More recently, his work has travelled well past the club as well, with sound concepts for photo exhibitions and a piece for the Berlin State Ballet with Frank Wiedemann and choreographer Nadja Saidakowa.

Dettmann & Marquardt

Marquardt, the legendary doorman and artist behind these photos, first captured Dettmann in 2008 for his debut album on Ostgut Ton, and what started as a single shoot quickly became an annual ritual. From the beginning, Marquardt felt Dettmann was the perfect subject for his lens. Their shared East German upbringing gave the relationship a particular tone which grew into full artistic collaboration, combining music, photography and visual art into live audiovisual performances such as Black Box and Slide.

Our preparation for Basilar in September continues with another event scheduled for later this month in Barcelona.

DJ Red and Montero will guide the evening, so expect obscure oddities and their usual deepness.

DJ Red joins us ahead of her appearance at Basilar later this year. A key figure in Rome’s techno story, long connected to Goa Club and Ultrabeat, she is a perfect fit in our line-up.

Les Enfants is an intimate club in the heart of the city, dedicated to underground music and powered by a state of the art L-Acoustics system.

Barcelona, see you soon.

What can we say about Paris? Sunday will linger on our minds for months to come, for sure. Dedication, honesty, community focus and musical wizardry, just the way we like it.

Thank you Furia Collective for all your hard work in making this happen. The set design was splendid, the hospitality and your crew was a dream. Teaming up at the incredible La Station - Gare des Mines felt perfect to everyone on our team. Such a great place to hang out and party with your loving crowd!

A special note to our guest Kr!z for a great closing set, and to both crew’s residents Equus Belli, Montero, Enkō, Tauer and A.mo. Everyone was on top of their game and our heart is completely full.

See you in September!

On June 7, Basilar and Furia Collective meet at La Station - Gare des Mines, for a daytime gathering in Paris. This partnership was born from things that are dear to both projects: music, friendship, sound quality and the stubborn belief that dancefloor can still feel personal and genuine.

The venue, an abandoned industrial railway site is the perfect analogy to how hard it is to find a brotherly crew with whom to share these values.

Before the iconic venue reaches its final days, we come together for a few hours of unpolished dusty rhythms.

Say hi to Hardware Live, next on the Basilar Mix Series.

Six musicians with a collection of machines jamming for three and a half hours in a psychedelic vortex. This is their recording from 2025 and we can honestly say it’s one of the moments we still hold vividly in our memories.

What they have achieved is quite rare. A national concept made by friends that is fully collaborative and improvised. It demands real commitment from all of them, and their dedication stands out in every moment they create with their beautiful machines.

We hold their vibe in the highest regard, so check the recording through the link in our bio section and their words in the slides.

This series documents what happens when sound, atmosphere and people align for a brief stretch of time.

Balancing modern life and sustainability is not always easy, but we feel it deserves the effort. Every sustainable choice we bring into the festival lowers our footprint, and last year, every material on site had a past life. The brutalist concept, developed by Collective Zero, Paula Viejo and the Basilar team, was circular by design. Durable, repairable, recyclable.

The metal frames and structures came from ArtWorks, through their No Entulho platform, which uses industrial surplus materials. The frames became our foodcourt tables, whilst the larger structures were turned into playgrounds and hangout spaces. Metal sheets became light filters and resin grids stage layers. You might’ve noticed the old factory lamps on the dance floor, a major detail last year!

With the help of Studio8 we were able to source a few concrete blocks from Costa Almeida Ambiente, a demolition company that brings debris back into the construction cycle. Before returning to dust, ours served as tables at the beach and seating near the bar.

Not one of these pieces was new and most of it will go on to be something else.
