Jesteśmy głęboko poruszeni i zasmuceni śmiercią poety, prozaika i eseisty, tłumacza, krytyka literackiego i intelektualisty publicznego Leszka Szarugi (28 lutego 1946 - 15 października 2024), którego twórczość i osobowość kształtowały pokolenia czytelników, studentów i badaczy w Polsce i za granicą.*
Podczas pierwszej szkoły letniej Stn:ort Festival we współpracy z Lehndorff-Gesellschaft Steinort e.V. i przy wsparciu, w lipcu 2019 roku, Leszek Szaruga wygłosił przed Pałacem Lehndorffów wykład otwarty na temat twórczości Johannesa Bobrowskiego.
Po wykładzie odbyło się czytanie poezji wielokrotnie nagradzanej poetki i wydawcy Anny Matysiak, która była również wydawcą i towarzyszką Leszka Szarugi. Popołudnie zdawało się nie mieć końca, gdy wspólnie debatowaliśmy i zastanawialiśmy się, snując plany na przyszłość, wspominając przeszłość i ciesząc się intelektualną i poetycką stymulacją przy stole ozdobionym wczesnymi mazurskimi letnimi jabłkami. Poszliśmy więc na kolację z widokiem na Jezioro Sztynorckie i rozmawialiśmy dalej.
Wszystko to jest teraz słodko-gorzkim wspomnieniem, ale słodszym niż gorzkie, bo jesteśmy wdzięczni za wspólnie spędzony czas, za wspólne rozmowy i wiersze pod letnim niebem.

We are deeply touched and sadded by the death of poet, prose writer and essayist, interpreter, literary critic and public intellectual Leszek Szaruga (28th Feburary 1946 - 15th October 2024), whose work and personality have shaped generations of readers, university students, and researchers in Poland and abroad.
During the first summer school of Stn:ort Festival, in July 2019, and thanks to the initiative of Dr. Bettina Bouresh, head of the Lehndorff-Gesellschaft Steinort e.V., Leszek Szaruga was our invited speaker. In front of the Lehndorff Palace, he gave an openair lecture on the work of Mazurian writer Johannes Bobrowski. The lecture was followed by a poetry reading of award-winning poet and publishing house owner Anna Matysiak, who was also Leszek Szaruga's publisher for poetry.
The afternoon discussion that followed both meetings didn't seem to come to an end. We, a small group age range 16-73, Polish and German, were debating and thinking together, making plans for the future, reminiscing the past and enjoying intellectual and poetic stimulation around a table adorned by early Masurian summer apples. So, what could we do but go on to have dinner overlooking the Jezioro Sztynorckie and talk some more.
All this is a bittersweet memory now, but still sweeter than bitter, because we are grateful for the time spent together, for the thoughts and poems shared under the summer sky.
