📣 🔔 We are extremely honoured that Prof. Chantal Delsol will be joining us at the 4th international conference "Christian Philosophy: Between Christian and Post-Christian Worldviews" (22–23 September 2026). Prof. Delsol will deliver a lecture entitled "The Post-Christian Age: A Sacralised Humanism". 😀
🟥 Prof. Delsol is a historian of ideas and a political philosopher. Since 1993, she has been a professor at the University of Paris XII and subsequently at the University of Marne-la-Vallée. There, she established the Centre for European Studies, which focused primarily on researching relations between Eastern and Western Europe, and which was later transformed into the Hannah Arendt Institute. She has collaborated with numerous dissidents and representatives of the anti-communist opposition in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. In 2007, Chantal Delsol, in recognition of the significance of her academic work, was elected to the French “Académie des Sciences morales et politiques”. She is also a member of the French Catholic Academy and the Thomas More Institute in Canada.
🟧 Her philosophy of politics, which is based on the concept of human dignity, has been the subject of a series of publications initiated by the volume "Souci contemporain". Delsol addressed the question of European identity in the books "Les deux Europes" and "L’identité de l’Europe". And in 2021, she published a monograph on Central Europe, "La vie de l’Esprit dans l’Europe centrale et orientale depuis 1945".
🟨 In her latest book, "Insurrection des particularités" (2025), Prof. Delsol argues that in Western societies, universalism is giving way to the triumph of particularism. Grand principles, based on human rights, are giving way to the demands of social groups. The scientific spirit is giving way to the reign of beliefs, myths and dreams. Everywhere, reason is giving way to the dictatorship of feelings and passions. Collective thought now promotes only the development of the ego, subjectivity and the everyday as the ultimate epic. In geopolitical terms, the Western empire is giving way to the triumphant flourishing of national particularities. A world that has lost the core which previously gave it structure is becoming fragmented and witnessing a proliferation of discord and conflict. 🟩 Chantal Delsol’s most provocative and widely discussed book is her publication entitled "La fin de la Chrétienté (poche). L’inversion normative et le nouvel âge" (2023), translated into Polish as "Koniec świata chrześcijańskiego. Inwersja normatywna i nowa era" (WAM Publishers, Kraków 2023) (https://wydawnictwowam.pl/prod.koniec-swiata-chrzescijanskiego.35093.htm?sku=91451)
