/ENG/We held the Festival annually ever since 1982. 929 choirs from 42 countries from Europe, Asia, North America, Australia and Africa have participated in the Festival so far. The aim of the Festival is to present the great artistic and spiritual values of Orthodox Church music. Its program creates also the opportunity for discussion, meetings, exchanges of experiences and making of new relation
ships among the participants from different environments – and thus, it is equally enriched by the aesthetic and educational objectives. Choirs participating in the Festival`s competition are judged by an international jury in the following categories: amateur (parish and secular), children and youth, music academies and professional. In 1995, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage qualified the International Festival of Orthodox Music - "Hajnówka" to the musical art events at the highest level, giving it a "zero category" , same as International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition and the International Festival of Contemporary Music "Warsaw Autumn", and thus the most famous Polish world music events. So far the Festival has taken place under the Honorary Patronage of Presidents of Poland, under the Artistic Patronage of prof. Krzysztof Penderecki (2003-2020) and Patronage of Polish Composers' Union.
/PL/Festiwal organizowany jest w cyklu corocznym od 1982 r. Wzięło w nim dotychczas udział 929 chórów z 42 krajów Europy, Azji, Ameryki Północnej, Australii i Afryki. Celem Festiwalu jest prezentacja wysokich wartości artystycznych i duchowych muzyki cerkiewnej. Formuła Festiwalu stwarzająca okazję do dyskusji, spotkań, wymiany doświadczeń i nawiązania przyjaźni między uczestnikami z różnych środowisk - wzbogaca jego charakter o cele estetyczne i wychowawcze. Chóry uczestniczące w festiwalowym konkursie są oceniane przez międzynarodowe Jury w następujących kategoriach: amatorskie (parafialne i świeckie), dziecięco-młodzieżowe, uczelni muzycznych i zawodowe. W roku 1995 Ministerstwo Kultury i Sztuki zakwalifikowało Międzynarodowy Festiwal Muzyki Cerkiewnej -" Hajnówka" do muzycznych wydarzeń artystycznych najwyższej rangi, nadając mu "kategorię zerową" czyli tę jaką ma Konkurs Chopinowski i Międzynarodowy Festiwal Muzyki Współczesnej "Warszawska Jesień", a więc najbardziej znane na świecie polskie imprezy muzyczne. Festiwal odbywa się pod Honorowym Patronatem Prezydentów RP, pod Patronatem Artystycznym prof. Krzysztofa Pendereckiego (2003-2020) oraz Patronatem Związku Kompozytorów Polskich.
