Ikebana International was founded in Tokyo, Japan, in 1956 by the late Ellen Gordon Allen as a worldwide organization dedicated to the promotion of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The members are dedicated to promote this art by inviting ikebana masters of different schools and create greater public interest in this art form as well as creating awareness in bringing peace and fri
endship in the world. Karachi Chapter 204 was formed by Mrs. Matsumura, wife of the then Japanese
Ambassador, first as a prospective chapter in September 1978, which then gained full Chapter status in September 1979. The members meet once a month where workshops, lectures, other aspects of Japanese culture, plant and flower related subjects by experts, friendship meetings, tours and other interesting activities are organized. The Chapter has exhibitions and demonstrations by our own teachers and visiting masters. Regular fund-raisers are held for special and needy organizations. Ikebana International hold world conventions every 5 years in Japan. Regional
conferences are held every two years in Asia, Europe, North and South America,
Australia, and Africa. All ikebana members can spread our motto “Friendship through Flowers”. We receive 3 magazines a year from International Headquarters in Japan and also regular newsletters. Membership is open to all persons interested in the art of Japanese flower arrangement regardless of previous experience.
