HOW IMPORTANT IS EDUCATION?
I am living proof of the saying, “Ball is life.”
Basketball became a huge part of my life. Through the sport, I was given the opportunity to study in good schools as a student-athlete, compete in one of the biggest collegiate leagues in the country, represent my hometown, played in professional leagues and most importantly, help and support my family through the game that I love.
Basketball gave me opportunities, experiences, and memories that I will always be grateful for. It became more than just a sport, it became a pathway that helped shape the person I am today.
But despite everything basketball gave me, there was one thing I never turned my back on: my education.
I knew that no matter how far basketball could take me, education would always be one of the most important foundations for my future. Playing days do not last forever. There will eventually come a time when the final buzzer sounds and we have to face a new chapter in life.
Now that I have had the opportuniity to enjoy and pursue my passion for sports, I have entered another chapter serving as a public servant. It is a path I may not have reached without the opportunities basketball gave me, especially the opportunity to finish my education.
That is why I always say:
“I did not study so I could play basketball.
I played basketball so I could study.”
Sports may not last forever, but your education, diploma, knowledge, and the degree you worked hard to earn can stay with you for the rest of your life, wherever your journey may take you.
To every young athlete who dreams of pursuing their passion: keep dreaming, keep training, keep praying and keep working hard. Give everything you have to the sport you love, but never allow your education to be left behind.
Chase your dreams on the court, but prepare yourself for the life that comes after it, and don't forget to praise the Lord🙏.
Because one day, the game will end, but your future will continue.
May my journey serve as an inspiration to young athletes today: pursue your passion, but never forget the importance of education.
