Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel in the Andes Mountains of Peru, famous for its sophisticated dry-stone walls, astronomical alignments, and stunning views. Built as an estate for Inca leaders around 1450, it was abandoned about a century later and was largely unknown to the outside world until 1911. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, also known as the "Lost City of the Incas"
