Kalayaan House Council

Last August 3, 2019 was our last day of check-in last year. Today marks the of batch 2019 - 2020 and a lot has changed since then.

This same time last year, when we first entered Kalayaan Residence Hall, it was simply the building where we'll stay during our first year in UP. They have been mentioning that it will be "our home away from home" but these words meant nothing.

However, after days of eating with our roommates after a long and rough day, after "studying" in the TV Area with some of our coursemates or corridor-mates, or people from our same region, after stretching our schedule, creativity, and effort to be able to make the most out of our KBB: The Big Night, MX Kalayaan, and PasaFest, among others, and every single moment in between, we have become each other's friends and family, and the words "home away from home" meant something and will forever be etched in our hearts.

It may have been cut short due to the pandemic but, we have spent our first year with the best and most amazing people.

As our means of saying "Thank You" to all the friends and family we have made, KRH batch 2019-2020 presents our very own Minsan Cover.

Wacky Friday is annual event hosted by the Kalayaan Residence Hall. It is an avenue for all KRH residents to dress up whoever they want to become for a day—breaking the clothing restrictions from what the society deem as normal or appropriate, becoming their favorite character from a movie or a TV show, or wearing anything funny and unusual! This is an event that encourages dormers and the rest of UP Diliman to become creative and free to express what you want and become who you want.

This year, Wacky Friday was celebrated in an unusual way because of the pandemic thus the quarantine, but it did not hinder Kalayaan Residence Hall to share one of its advocacies— that we are free. As we enter a "new normal", we are still free to express who we are and what we want to become.

Last May 15, 2020, Kalayaan Residence Hall dormers who are currently staying in the dorm and those who are at their homes celebrated Wacky Friday and were able to be in their most creative, free, and wacky attires. Read through the captions to see the inspirations of their attires!

What's up, Kalay? Today is Wacky Friday!!

Everyone is already preparing their attire for today's program! We know we are all excited but here are a few reminders before everything else:

1. Program starts at 6:30 PM at the Kalayaan Residence Hall TV Area! The Facebook Live on our facebook group starts at the same time.
2. The competition for the Best Costume is open for all Kalayaan Residence Hall residents only.
3. One winner will be selected from the Kalay stayers (dormers staying in KRH during the quarantine) and dormers who are staying at home.
4. Some of our KRH RAs: Ate Hysa, Ate Pao, Kuya Von, and Kuya Barbs, and one of our dorm managers: Ma'am Lily will serve as our judges.
5. Judges will be rating the attire of the contestants from 1 to 10 (10 being the highest) and ratings will be accumulated to determine the winner.
6. Contestants can be as creative as they can.

We all miss Kalay events but, worry not for we can still enjoy it wherever we are. Hurray for Wacky Friday! See you later!

WHAT IS UP, KALAYAAN? Itutuloy natin ang Wacky Friday!! 🥳🤩

This coming Friday, May 15, 2020, dress up in your wackiest wherever you are!! Show the rest of Kalayaan and the rest of the Facebook World how quarantine got you like!

Program starts at 6:30 PM at the TV Area, for the Kalay stayers, and through livestream here on our page, for every one staying at home! Get your attire ready with the theme “quarantine-got-me-like—“ and be as creative as you can! Give it your best shot for cash prize is awaiting!

Good News is that everyone can actually join! 3 winners will be selected! One from those staying in Kalay, one from the Kalay dormers staying at
home, and one from the non-Kalay residents! So, make sure to prepare the wittiest and most creative costume and to share this with your friends and family!

Dahil isang linggo na ang nakalipas matapos ang ating matagumpay na PasaFest 2020: Lulan, ipinapaabot ng Kalayaan Residence Hall House Council ang aming taos-pusong pasasalamat sa KRH management, sa lahat ng KRH residents, sa mga natatanging bisita, sa aming mga sponsors at partners, at sa lahat ng mga naging bahagi ng isang kaganapang nagdala ng lubos na kasiyahan sa ating lahat at ating babaunin sa mga susunod pa naming taon sa UP Diliman at pagkatapos pa.

Ang lahat ng ito ay hindi magiging posible kundi dahil sa pagtutulungan nating lahat!

Maraming Salamat, Kalay! Hanggang sa susunod nating event!!

Matatagpuan sa Kalayaan ang pagtitipon ng mga Freshie ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Diliman mula sa lahat ng sulok ng buong Pilipinas sa Pasalubong Festival 2020: Lulan!

Saksihan ang Likhang Sining, Malayang Pagbigkas, at Tanghalan.
Kilalanin ang magiging PasaFest 2020 Ambassador.
Panoorin ang sikat na mga Performing Arts groups ng UP Diliman.
Bisitahin ang mga PasaluBooth ng bawat Tribu at busugin ang mga mata at isipan.
Tikman ang mga kilalang pagkain ng lahat ng lalawigan nang libre.
Ang lahat ng ito ay sasalamin sa natatanging yaman at pagkakakilala ng lahat Tribu sa Kalay at ang lahat, kahit ‘di taga-UP Diliman, ay inaanyayahan.
