MTAP Math Challenge 2026
Operating Guidelines
1. MTAP Math Challenge SY 2025-2026 shall be conducted in two rounds:
Elimination Round – January 10, 2026
Final Round - February 21, 2026
2. Test questions shall be prepared by the MTAP Technical Committee, whose members are approved by the MTAP Executive Board.
3. Test materials shall be prepared by the MTAP Secretariat and delivered directly to the designated testing centers.
4. For the Elimination Round, test materials shall be opened publicly by the Testing Center Coordinator just before the start of the competition. A certification shall be signed by the Coordinator and selected proctors to document the proceedings.
ELIMINATION ROUND
Date: January 10, 2026
1. Participation in the MTAP Math Challenge is limited to those who are registered in MTAP’s Program of Excellence in Mathematics (POEM) for SY 2025–2026.
2. The Elimination Round shall be conducted simultaneously in all MTAP-POEM training centers on January 10, 2026. No other schedule shall be allowed.
3. Tests shall be administered to each grade level with the time allotments specified below:
• Grades 1 and 2 : 60 minutes
• Grades 3 and 4 : 80 minutes
• Grades 5 and 6 : 90 minutes
• Grades 7 to 10 : 120 minutes
4. Scores for each grade level within the same school shall be ranked. The top three scorers at each grade level shall form the school team for that grade. The fourth highest scorer shall serve as the alternate. If a team member cannot participate, the alternate may substitute.
5. The scores of the three team members at each grade level shall be added together to determine the School Score for that grade level.
6. In cases where there are ten (10) or more teams in the Schools Division, the School Scores will be ranked, and the top ten (10) teams will advance to the Final Round – Team Category.
7. The scores of all participants in the Schools Division will be ranked. The top ten (10) scorers, regardless of team affiliation, will advance to the Final Round under the Individual Category.
FINAL ROUND
Date: February 21, 2025
1. A designated MTAP Officer shall oversee the preparation, implementation, and documentation of the Final Round, including:
1.1. Preparation of the program
1.2. Designation of judges, proctors, and quizmasters
1.3. Preparation of all contest materials
1.4. Resolution of protests arising during the competition
2. Team competitions should be held on stage in a gymnasium or function room capable of accommodating participants and the audience.
2.1. For the elementary level, the Team Oral Competitions shall be conducted simultaneously in three venues:
Venue A: Grades 1–2
Venue B: Grades 3–4
Venue C: Grades 5–6
2.2 For the high school level, the Team Oral Competitions shall be conducted simultaneously in two venues:
Venue A: Grades 7–8
Venue B: Grades 9–10
2.3. Schedule of Competition

2.4. Results of the Team Competition shall be announced immediately after the competition.
3. The Individual Competition shall be conducted in a closed room. Contestants must use their assigned code numbers during the examination.
AWARDS – Final Round
1. The top three (3) scorers in both Individual and Team Competitions shall receive certificates and medals, regardless of score.
2. Plaque of Recognition shall be awarded to respective schools of the top three (3) teams.
3. E-Certificates of Recognition shall be awarded to trainers/coaches
4. E-Certificates of Merit shall be awarded to all non-winning finalists.
