The Atenean.
by Faye Kashmere Namoro, 2018 Atenean. A word that signifies a person who exemplifies excellence, courage, and honor. Since 1940, Ateneo de Naga is helping students inside and outside the Bicol Region to experience quality education through its core values. The institution aims to develop not only an Ateneanโs intellectual feature but also the personโs spiritual and personal aspects. Four years ago, Ateneo de Naga University started to extend its tradition of developing senior high school students to holistic individuals by instilling Ignatian values within them.
As one of the Jesuit schools in the Philippines, Ateneo de Naga University, with its Senior High School provides academic opportunities that will help develop and enhance skills of its students that are necessary for them to be competent in their future endeavors after graduation. This means that ADNU provides various opportunities in both co-curricular and extra-curricular that optimize the studentsโ ability for them to develop a multitude of intellectual perspectives. More so, Ateneans, as competitive young individuals are expected to exemplify โMagisโ by exceeding the standards and criteria set for them. Ateneo breeds its students to do their best, even in the smallest and simplest task they do, and challenges them to be aware of the social problems that currently exist.
Ateneo is known to be an institution that initiates community outreach, engagement, and immersions. An Atenean, therefore, should actively involve himself in such works to develop the compassion that they must share with other people. This reflects โCura Personalis,โ which is about being responsible for catering to the needs of the different communities outside. Ateneans can build rapport and maintain healthy relationships with other people and show care and concern towards them by fully committing themselves to be of service to other people. For these causes, Ateneans continue to live with its principle of being men and women for others.
More than the greatness Ateneans posses, they never forget the giver of such gifts, the Almighty. With this, Ateneo makes God the center of everything. Every year, Ateneans attend recollections, retreats, masses, and other spiritual activities that would help them build and understand their personal relationship with Him. Moreover, ADNU helps every student to seek and find God in all things and to be a soldier of his faith.
