Fourteen Filipino authors, creators, educators, and publishers are heading to Singapore!

Congratulations to the Creative Nation grantees for the 2026 Asian Festival of Children's Content (AFCC)! From 21 to 24 May 2026 at the National Library Building in Singapore, our selected grantees will take part in exciting conversations and activities alongside creators from across Asia to discuss the key trends shaping the landscape of children's literature.

This year's festival theme, "The Words We Make," couldn't be more fitting: stories that drive action, shape the future, and strengthen community don't write themselves. Someone has to make them, and our grantees are exactly the kind of people who do!

Watch this space for updates from the 2026 AFCC!

Lado Lokal
Directed by Junie Linsoco

Lado Lokal is a five-minute no-script short film, an ASMR attempt buffet of visuals from vapid moments to ordinary spectacles.

A collection of footage taken from Catanduanes and Camarines Sur, combined with slow mornings, Rothko-like dusks, and mostly slices of melancholic provincial life.

Most of the scenes were taken candidly for documenting some friends, strangers, and mostly nature, tailored to examine new and speculative narratives. The film is an invitation not to confuse but to provoke feelings that art is part of our daily life.

Naga City Arts and Culture Coalition, under Naga City People's Council - NCPC with the help of Safe and Sound Cities - Naga and Street Tactics , in partnership with the Naga City Government and in support of Mayor Leni Robredo + DPWH Region V-Bicol + Naga City Public Safety Office present to you the process that went through the conception to creation of the "Go! Tigers" Pedestrian Crossing Mural at MT Villanueva for the Tactical Urbanism Scheme.

It all starts out with a digital sketch by one of the artists in the core team of this project from the Visual Arts Subsector. The design process was quick, with immediate design approval, minimal to no edits required from the stakeholders involved.

"Go! Tigers" is an homage to the institution of Naga College Foundation, Inc. as the pedestrian crossing is located in front of them. This serves as a hyperlocal reference to their tiger mascot and brand identity, with the crown symbolizing their status as the Home of the Champions. Aside from its aesthetic purpose, the main goal is the visibility of these areas for the safety of the pedestrians from oncoming traffic.

The first few photos show the iterations and tweaks made through a digital art application with superimposed aerial drone shots of the PedXing. The creatives team used a technique called "doodle gridding" where doodles are used instead of the usual measured grid style to scale up the digital drawing to its proper proportion and aspect ratio.

Once the initial sketch was laid out by chalk, the team, along with the volunteers from Naga City Youth Officials and NCF staff plus student body were able to make progress under the warm temperatures and less than ideal road conditions. Painting around 3-5 layers of Megacryl MCS acrylic latex paint from Davies Paints Philippines (not sponsored... yet!) on the pavement was a challenging feat. Then afterwards, when the paint was all dry, emulsion from Boysen Paints Philippines Clear Acrylic Emulsion B-700 (not sponsored yet as well!) serves as a top coat for an extra layer of protection.

We understand the impermanence of these paints on road pavement as a trial to last for at most a month until the redesign comes in full swing. This mural is TEMPORARY - for this is only the pilot phase for the whole MT Villanueva Redesign. This trial period is for a way for the community to realize and envision the potential of what the city can and should be.

Truly the Maogmang Lugar, our home serves as a constant inspiration as we all come together for a safer, sounder and artsier Naga City!

The term "tarรณk" in Bikol agriculture is to transplant. It is the process of planting rice on a field bed and as it grows and matures as a healthy rice plant, it gets transferred to a bigger field along with the rest of the rice plants for a careful and safe early growth for the crops. In agriculture, transplanting has been a common technique used by arborists, botanists, and farmers to make the plants survive and thrive in different weather and soil conditions. Those that have grown too big in their pots get transplanted to a bigger patch of soilโ€”to make them grow bigger. Those that are easily infested with pests and have weak sapling bodies get protected from the harsh open-field conditions. Those that are in need of specific nutrients get nurtured and can be transplanted once they get healthier enough to be grown in the wilderness.
Much like transplanting, critical writing is a form of nurturing, protecting, and expanding one's view. Finding the points where ideas would clash, consider revising and reconcile with different techniques in writing and in their forms of art. Nurturing the ones that can be further improved, protecting the views and areas of discussion that should have been preserved, and expanding both the critic's and artist's view on the creation and how these forms of literature and art affect the culture and society we live inโ€”and vice versa.

Critical writing exists because one understands the other's message. And those who have understood would want to give their own thoughts to help the other grow.

The goal of this workshop is to expand the space for cultural criticism in Bikol and its diverse forms through multiple mediumsโ€”literature and translation, music, visual art, film, and theater.
