Tao Rin Pala

Tao Rin Pala Three words. Ten letters. Say it and be proud. Tao Rin Pala. By the UP Medical Students' Society

‘Tao Rin Pala’ (TRP) is the annual university-wide variety show organized wholly by the UP Medical Students’ Society, featuring performances by undergraduate students, faculty, medical students, residents, fellows, and consultants from the different UP-PGH departments. Starting out as a choral competition in 1974, the event was a respite from the demands of the medical profession with the objectiv

e to present the creative and human side of doctors, hence the event’s name. As the production evolved and diversified, the show eventually united medical students with the common passion for showcasing the diverse artistic talents of dancing, singing, instrument playing and even costume designing. Still at the heart of the show is the choral competition where College of Medicine classes compete with original lyrics and arrangements to be proclaimed the TRP Choral Competition Champions.

The TRP 52 Committee acknowledges the concern regarding the Peso Votes and takes full responsibility for our lapses.

As the organizing committee moves forward, we emphasize the importance of clear systems, timely communication, and decisive action — and we are committed to learning from this experience to ensure better safeguards in future iterations of Tao Rin Pala.

We extend our gratitude to the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority for their grace, understanding, and continued support for the spirit of service that Tao Rin Pala stands for.

We also extend our appreciation to everyone who voiced their concerns respectfully.

This performing group is especially close to the hearts of this year’s TRP organizing committee. For the past two months, they have been the hands, the hustle, and the heartbeat behind this spectacle of a stage — building and bringing every corner of it to life. Tonight, they played several roles: welcoming crew, ushers, and stage runners among others. Truly, TRP 52 would NOT have been possible without them.

And now, the spotlight is on them! Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and give a roaring round of applause for the 52nd batch of applicants—the lively and spirited baby cows of the UP Medical Students Society!

The UP MedRhythmics is the official dance team of the UP College of Medicine. Comprised of individuals whose backgrounds are as diverse as the styles they perform, the members foster the spirit of camaraderie and continually seek out avenues for creative expression.

Last February, they were crowned champions at MedGroove 2026, their first return to this annual inter-medical school dance competition since the pandemic. In 2014 and 2015, they were crowned back-to-back champions and recipients of the Best in Aesthetics Award at MedGroove and won Best in Choreography and first runner up in 2019. In 2018, they bagged the championship as well as two special awards - People’s Choice and Best in Costume - at Step UP Manila, the first ever intra-UPM dance competition. They were also the champions and awarded Most Creative Performance at the UP Manila Got Talent held last year. Since then, they continued to captivate audiences and share their craft at the 2025 Kick-off & Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and the PGH Variety Show, each stage showcasing their versatility and commitment to uplifting the community through dance. Fully passionate about their craft, they perform as One Team—moving to One Beat with One Rhythm.

The UP Meridian is a duly recognized organization of Filipino-Chinese students from the University of the Philippines, College of Medicine, dedicated to cultivating awareness and appreciation of Chinese culture through meaningful interactions within the community. Since its establishment in 2005, the organization has continued to champion cultural pride and unity through dynamic college- and university-wide celebrations, including the Mid-Autumn Festival every September and the weeklong Chinese New Year Celebration in February. More than a cultural organization, the UP Meridian is a testament to identity in motion, where Chinese heritage and Filipino values converge, shaping future physicians grounded in culture, driven by excellence, and committed to compassionate service.

WINNER OF THE BEST IN CHOREOGRAPHY AWARD

UPCM 2026 — three-time Best Choreography Awardee — returns to the TRP stage for one final bow. This year, we are joined by PGH postgraduate interns — no longer just co-workers in the wards, but friends forged through shared duties, sleepless nights, quiet reassurances, and unwavering support.

Together, UPCM 2026 and Friends brings to life a story that mirrors the journey of many in medicine: from driven ambition, to exhaustion and burnout, to the quiet and powerful rediscovery of purpose. It reflects a truth we have come to understand — what sustains doctors is not achievement, but responsibility to those who place their trust in us.

As this group takes the TRP stage one last time, they do so not to chase another title, but to honor the journey — imperfect, demanding, and deeply human. They dance not flawlessly, but faithfully.
