The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication aiming to promote science literacy and facilitate awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films. The 6th Science Film Festival in the Philippines focuses this year on the theme “Light” in accordance with the celebration of United Nation’s International Year of Light 2015,
focusing on the importance of light and how it helps revolutionize our global society. The project was initiated by the Goethe-Institut Bangkok in 2005 and developed into an international event in 2010, taking place meanwhile in 2015 for various durations between 07 October – 09 December in Cambodia, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Palestine, the Philippines, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. The festival presents films, which communicate technological and scientific issues accessibly and entertainingly to a broad audience, especially to young pupils and students. Through this approach, the festival encourages a culture of science films that effectively combines education and entertainment, demonstrating that science communication and learning can be fun.
