The Malikhaing G**o 2026 conference concluded with a meaningful synthesis and closing program that gathered the insights, reflections, and commitments shared throughout the event.

The Conference Synthesis was delivered by MG Convenor Prof. Lorenzo Isla, who highlighted the importance of “translation and transmission” or “TRA-TRA” — challenging participants to ensure that the ideas, practices, and learnings from the conference are translated into concrete action and transmitted to communities, classrooms, and future generations.

MG Convenor and ARTIST Inc. Chairperson Prof. Rica Palis also shared reflections on sustaining collaboration and strengthening culture-based education initiatives beyond the conference space.

The Closing Message was delivered by MG Convenor and ARTIST Inc. Executive and Artistic Director Mr. Edward Perez, expressing gratitude to all participants and partners who contributed to the success of the conference.

As Malikhaing G**o 2026 comes to a close, participants leave with renewed inspiration and a shared commitment to building learning systems rooted in culture, community, and creativity.

The conversation continues with the session “Tara, Kape Tayo: A Conversation on Coffee Consumption, Livelihoods and Social Relations in Rural Communities” led by Dr. Sherry B. Marasigan, Associate Professor of UPLB CAFS-ASI.

The session explores how coffee goes beyond being a daily beverage, highlighting its role in shaping rural livelihoods, strengthening community relationships, and sustaining cultural practices in farming communities.

The learning sessions continue at MG 2026 with the talk “Decolonizing Pedagogy: Vernacular Agency and Linguistic Localization in Culture-Based Curriculum Design” by Dr. Joan Christi Trocio-Bagaipo, faculty member of the Institute of Religion at the University of Sto. Tomas and member of the Board of Trustees of ARTIST Inc.

Day 2 of Malikhaing G**o 2026 opened with a sharing session where participants reflected on their learnings, insights, and experiences from yesterday’s discussions and activities.

The conversations continue with the session “Grounding Learners in Their Parents’ Homeland Culture: Challenges and Opportunities for Educational Leaders in Shifting Multicultural Space” led by Ms. Ninalyn Sulit-Cacananta, CEO and Founder of HFSE International School in Singapore.

The discussion highlights the role of educators and learning institutions in helping young learners stay connected to their cultural roots while navigating diverse and multicultural spaces.

Onsite participants of Malikhaing G**o 2026 took part in the Sunset Heritage Walk, an immersive cultural experience exploring significant historical and heritage sites in Los Baños, Laguna.

The heritage walk featured visits to Pook Pinagtatagan ng UPLB, the Ruins of the PNR Tracks in Bambang, Agua Santa Resort Ruins, Ruins of Old Pantalan, and Bahay ni Paciano Rizal.

The activity offered participants a deeper appreciation of local history, heritage, and community narratives while highlighting the importance of preserving cultural spaces and historical memory for future generations.

“Culture-based Education Through School and Community Learning Systems: Navigating Challenges in Food Security, Climate Change and Sustainability.”

The sessions highlight innovative studies, community experiences, and creative approaches that strengthen the connection between culture, education, and sustainability in addressing today’s pressing social and environmental challenges.

The conversations continued at Malikhaing G**o 2026 with insightful discussions on the intersections of culture, agriculture, gastronomy, and community engagement in education.

Leading the second plenary session, “From Books to Tables, From Gardens to Plates: A Dynamic Mix of Culture, Agriculture, and Gastronomy for Transformative Education,” food writer and Ugnayan Center for Philippine Gastronomy founder Mr. Guillermo “Ige” Ramos shared how food, heritage, and local practices can become powerful tools for transformative learning.

Participants were also welcomed by Los Baños Mayor Hon. Neil Andrew Nocon, who expressed support for initiatives that strengthen culture-based education and community collaboration.

Another highlight of the program was the session “The Community as Artist and Teacher: Sowing Seeds of Shared Creativity and Social Responsibility” by Mr. Christian “Bong” Ramilo, former Executive Officer and Creative Producer of Darwin Community Arts Australia. The talk emphasized the importance of collective creativity, community participation, and social responsibility in shaping meaningful educational experiences.
