Know your history.
On April 9, 1942, Major General Edward King Jr. surrendered Bataan to Japan — the largest surrender of American-led forces in history.
What followed was the infamous Bataan Death March:
• Over 100 km of forced march from Mariveles, Bataan to Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac
• Prisoners endured brutal treatment — beatings, starvation, ex*****on
• Estimated 7,000 to 10,000 Filipino and American soldiers died during the so called Bataan death march.
Filipinos remember April 9 not as a day of loss, but as a celebration of courage, sacrifice, and valor (kagitingan) of the soldiers who fought against overwhelming odds, gave their lives for freedom and symbolized the Filipino sprit of resilience.
It is a day to remember that freedom is never free — it was paid for by the blood and sacrifice of those who came before us. 🕊️
