๐๐๐๐๐: The Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV), through Coast Guard Station (CGS) Iloilo and Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Carles, facilitated the arrival of BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) at Brgy. Lantaga Port, Isla Gigantes, Carles, Iloilo on May 13, 2026.
The vessel transported 1,000 family food packs from the Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) in Cebu City intended for the residents of Isla Gigantes. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the prepositioning of relief supplies in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA), ensuring faster and more efficient disaster response operations during emergencies and calamities.
In support of the operation, personnel from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO)โCarles and Barangay Tanods of Brgy. Gabi, Gigantes Island, Carles, Iloilo assisted in the hauling and unloading of the food packs, demonstrating strong coordination and community cooperation in the humanitarian mission.
This mission highlights the PCGโs commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness and delivering humanitarian assistance to vulnerable coastal communities.
