Happy 18th Tuna Festival!
We are very excited to invite you to take part in the most ambitious sporting event to happen in the 18th Tuna Festival 2016! - The 1st GENSAN Tuna Festival Dragon Boat Championship!!
Dragon Boating is a unique water sport that blends old traditions and modern game rules through the use of double-keeled dragon boats and wooden paddles. A competing team is composed of 22 people (20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and 1 steerer) of either genders admirably using their unified mental discipline and synchronized physical strength.
In the Philippines, dragon boating owes its beginning to the 118-year-old Manila Boat Club. Since then the Philippines finished record-breaking times at the Sydney and Prague World Championships in 2007 and 2009, respectively.
This is the first-time ever that General Santos City and the SOCCSKSARGEN region will host this event in Sarangani Bay and we are excited to engage your support through Corporate or Individual Sponsorship.
Momentarily, we are confronted with inadequate funds to mount the competition however, we are confident that with the help of the dynamic fishing sector in the city and every General, this exciting event will come to pass. Moreover, one outstanding feature of this competition is the involvement and participation of the fisherfolks, fishers, cannery workers, and fishworkers as competitor-athletes themselves!
