It's been more than a month since our humble event at Atúa, and since then the country has been battered with earthquakes, storms, and political scandals... Moments like these become distant and idealistic, but we hold onto them to remember that there are lights in the dark, even if they are small.
As the organizers, Gubat Banwa and Balay Kasamtangan are grateful to Holicow PH, Lost Books Cebu, Cebu Making Space, and Kuri Kuri Cebu for being our biggest supporters, each one a center of gravity in the Cebu creative scene doing their part in building a more authentic and artistic corner amidst everything.
We also thank all the friends both new and old that had a little fun tapping into all the seemingly disparate parts that came together in the name of culture and the Gubat Banwa universe.
To the exhibitors Strive CCA, Fiddl., and Elysium Cebu.
To our amazing merchants Dicerino, Made with Labs, Lemurian Flower, leftylostant and lostanthro, Hallyu Chicken, Okha.ph and Subculture Merch Cebu.
Our speakers in the cultural talks: the great John Dante, Benjamin Moses Diño II, Baijaya / Datú Kadaugan, Datú Mark Aguiman, Doc Eli Sajonia, and Basbasënën Adey Ilagan.
This event was a pure labor of love for those who carry the torches of keeping our culture alive, both pre-colonial and contemporary. Organizing the event officially started more than 7 months ago, but the mission goes way back to the days when we were youngins ourselves asking "who are we admidst this globalized society?"
We didn't make any money doing this, but feeling the energy of a niche community coming together to contribute to the intricate tapestry of this archipelago is worth every peso.
It takes us a while to update our social media since we're just a small team behind this massive mission, but we do our best to remain connected to the community we're trying to build.
Madakël ha salamat! Kinasingkasing nga pasalamat! Sa sunod na pud ⚔️ ❤️🔥 (maybe sooner than you think?? 👀)
