The Oblation Run in UP Cebu shares its roots from a tradition that began during Martial Law. In 1977, full-fledged members of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity from UP Diliman ran in protest against the banning of the film Hubad na Bayani (Naked Hero), which depicted human rights abuses during the martial law era. It draws its name and symbolism from the iconic UP Oblation statue, representing the selfless offering of self to the nation.
Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternityโs advocacy is centered on three core demands for the local and national government:
โข Justice for Cebuโs Environment and Accountability for Environmental Crimes
โข Absolute Transparency and Accountability
โข Protection of Academic Spaces
The Alpha Phi Omega invites the media and the public to focus on the messages carried by the runners and to join the sustained movement for justice and accountability long after the last runner has finished the route.
