TABO-TAGBO PARA SA CARBON: Street Jam Against Carbon Market Privatization

We’re bringing the jams in the middle of Cebu City’s historic market. Carbon serves metro cebu’s economy as source of affordable products making them more accessible for everyone. More popular as a market for vegetables and fruits, it is also home to almost all the possible retail products you can think of, making it a home for many small enterprises and vendors.

In the last years, there has been an effort to ‘modernize’ the market by giving the project to the a private company for modernization and operations. Vendors have since then, raised their concern over the seeming privatization of the public market; pointing out its implications to the vendors renting their spots and subsequently, the Cebuano consumers who will also share the burden of increasing costs. Carbon Market Vendors have been in a series of dialogues, petitions, and demonstrations of their opposition to this, and now there is a pending petition for certiorari against this project at the Supreme Court and a Nullification case of the JVA at the RTC. This March 17, the City Council of the Cebu City government will hold an executive session regarding this ongoing concern.

Us artists and musicians from counterflow, Concerned Artists of the Philippines Cebu Chapter and Andres Sugbu are showing our support to the Carbon Market Vendors and Carbon-hanong Alyansa in this fight.

So from our usual gig venues, we’re bringing the jams in the streets this time. Specifically in the middle of Carbon Market’s night market.

Tomorrow, March 15, Sunday, join us for “TABO-TAGBO PARA SA CARBON: Street Jam Against Carbon Market Privatization”. 4PM onwards at Carbon Market (Mc Briones St. Corner Plaridel) in front of San Jose Bakeshop.

A Concert Against Corruption and to raise funds for the communities affected by flooding in Cebu.

The massive flooding brought by the heavy rains of Typhoon Tino that killed hundreds; washed away homes; and affected tens of thousands of communities and families, has exposed the corruption, incompetence in governance, and the flaw of the overall design of our systems.

Counterflow Productions in partnership with CAP Cebu .cafe PAWN and individual artists brings you this event to not only raise funds and support for communities affected by the flooding, but more importantly, to raise our voices and fists against the corruption that has flooded our systems.

A Benefit Gig for Daddy Reginald Andrada

Daddy Regi is the father of Kezea Andrada , the former chairperson of USC Carolinian Political Science Society which has been a constant partner of counterflow productions on several events. Daddy Regi is suffering from Leukemia and is undergoing treatment. The series of treatments has raised the family’s hospital bills making it more challenging.

With this, Counterflow in partnership with Studio Mojo, SCIRE Publication and Kusina La Madera , is trying to help raise funds for Z and her Dad. We are lucky our friends obliged to play for this benefit gig!

ROCK THE VOTE!

This coming May, the country is scheduled to have its midterm National Elections. Amidst the challenges faced by the nation today such as poverty and political disunity, this coming elections becomes even more relevant to influence the future of our governance. We still have to confront issues related to elections including vote-buying, mis-information & disinformation, proliferation of political dynasties, and the overall accessibility of the electoral process. With this, it is imperative for all the sections of society to be vigilant and initiate efforts to reduce the effects of these challenges by engaging with the other sectors.

In this light, Counterflow Productions is spearheading “Rock The Vote”, a series of rock concerts/events to gather the youth, students, musicians, artists, academics and other sectors and advance the discourse and active engagement for a clean and genuinely representative national elections. We hope to hold these events in schools and communities to engage the public through music and creative expression.

The first installment of Rock the vote is in partnership with UP Cebu University Student Council this March 28 to be part of UP Cebu Intrams Culminating activity.

With heavy performances from UP Cebu's Punk Rock Alumni The Pervs and one of Cebu's most hard-hitting rock bands, The Rising Tide PH! With experimental DJ and Budots specialist Libya Montes to cap things off!!!!!
