In a letter to the President of the Peruvian Sports Institute Federico Tong, the Executive Board of Panam Sports informed that the continental event will be held from July 16 to August 1, 2027.
After the Panam Sports Executive Board meeting held last week in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the date of the next Pan American Games in Lima 2027 was agreed upon.
There were three proposals from the Peruvian government on the table. They were willing to organize the Games in May, July or September.
In view of this, and after an in-depth analysis by Panam Sports, the Executive Board agreed that the most important multi-sport festival of the continent will be held on July 16 to August 1, 2027.
“There were several factors to consider before determining the best date for the Games. The proposals were analyzed and finally, the entire Executive Board decided that it would be best to hold them in the month of July for several reasons, but perhaps the most important is that on that date we will be able to have the best athletes of the continent participating in Lima,” said the President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic.
Lima will host the Pan American Games for the second time in history, after the successful event in 2019. The Peruvian capital will thus become the third city in the Americas to host the continental event for a second time after Mexico City (1955 and 1975) and Winnipeg (1967 and 1999).
