Tēna koutou to our hapori of Te Kura o Otangarei.

The response from our post last night was positively overwhelming.
Comments ranged from anger for our situation, support but most importantly aroha and the extension and offering of manaakitanga.

On behalf of my staff and I, I’d like to personally say thank you for all the words of support, emails and offers of help.

What this post has created is community spirit and conversations that needed to be had and still happen over the next few days.

When the time comes, if help is needed we will reach out to people who have offered and get things back on track.

We have great tamariki in our kura.
Last week they represented our kura and this community with manaakitanga and pride. We will continue to do our best and be our best here and celebrate and focus on all of their achievements.

We are all born for greatness and our hope is that these tamariki who have been and are doing these kino (bad) things can get help from the community, or services to connect into their identity, Whakapapa and tikanga.

Ngā mihi kia koutou,

Danelle and the staff of Te Kura o Otangarei

Kiaora whānau,
Yesterday was very pouri for us as a Kura.
As you are all aware we finally have something positive happening for our tamariki and community with our buildings getting total refurbishment.
Our first building in the project was not far away from being completed and we were hoping to have a blessing and move in, Term 2.

Sadly over the weekend, local tamariki went in there and did thousands of dollars of damage and this has delayed the project.
This has been very disheartening for all of us.

We are sick of the constant vandalism that we are experiencing at our kura.
We look after the tamariki of Otangarei and we cannot do this alone without community support.
It seems people are turning a blind eye and allowing kids to roam the streets taking part in these acts that are just wrong, They are not the values and aspirations that our Tūpuna had for them/us as māori.

My staff and I do our best to provide for the learning and social needs of our tamariki.
Let’s work together in changing the narrative of Otangarei in Kotahitanga.

We are not wanting online negativity and will not engage with this, so please refrain from this but we are open to working together, talking and seeking some positive solutions.

Ngā mihi,
Danelle and the staff of Te Kura o Otangarei
