A message from Whangārei PROUD Trust.
Whangārei PROUD absolutely stands against the unnecessary and degrading ‘Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill' and are disappointed in the parties that have allowed it to pass its first reading. And as exhausting as it is to yet again be needing to speak up against the inevitable and continual repulsive rhetoric that has come out though the various social media platforms that's directed at our Transgender, Non binary and Intersex whānau, nothing compares to the exhaustion and hurt (and fear) that they must be feeling right now.
To all our transgender, non-binary, intersex, takatāpui, and MVPFAFF+ whānau: stay strong, we've got your back. We see you and we'll fight for you, because we know that no one else knows you better than you know yourselves, no one else has the right to say otherwise, and you do not deserve to be the political pawns you currently find yourselves to be. you are resilient, and your existence is undeniable; it is not to be defined by others. Trans people have always existed. Gender is, and always will be, fluid. No one has the right to tell another person how they should identify. No bill will erase that reality. Trans women are women, trans men are men. Intersex people exist. If you're challenged by these ideas, don't go and attack one of the most marginalized groups of people on the planet, but go and talk to them, ask kind questions, and use a growth mindset to challenge those preconceived ideas.
We're all human.

Do you have a great idea for an event? Do you want us to support you to create or run an event for our community? Do you want to volunteer to help with getting other peoples events up and running?

As a community we all have different wants and needs, and we want to know about them. Head to our website, click on the get involved button, and fill in the Linktree form. We all have lots of ideas, but unless we share them they will never happen.

We want to get our ideas list growing, and our creative juices flowing. It does not mean that everything will happen all at once, but it gives a great foundation for us as a community.
