We would be at TTC right now, enjoying some touch! We’re pretty gutted that we couldn’t make it happen this year, but look forward to getting stuck into plans for 2023 in Te Tai Tokerau! It’s great to see how innovative our touch community is being, holding smaller events in lieu of all being together at TTC - have fun and be safe out there whānau! Here’s a few snaps from last year… we’ll post some more of the girls tomorrow. Sending love throughout the motu!

Kia ora koutou — Earlier this week our Tamariki Touch Classic committee met to discuss the 2022 event, scheduled for Auckland Anniversary weekend.

Following feedback from many of our participating provinces, and taking into consideration the Covid Protection Framework (Traffic Light system) - we’ve made the really difficult decision to cancel the 2022 Tamariki Touch Classic.

Naturally, there will be many questions and possibly even alternative options suggested in an effort to show how TTC can run in January. We assure you we have explored all reasonable options.

This kaupapa was launched to bring whānau together - through touch. Taking the spirit of the much loved, now retired, IPS format - our goal is to provide a safe, fun environment for all in attendance.

In our hui, a committee member spoke of how TTC is one of those events where you can lose your kids, and know they will show up hours later having been fed, and looked after by our extended touch community.

We’re not confident the above can be achieved with the uncertainty, restrictions and requirements in place to run an event of our size. The hesitation of travelling into Auckland from outside the City has been communicated to us as well - something we can appreciate and understand.

It’s also really important that we protect our most vulnerable, in particular our kaumatua & kuia.

As a small team of volunteers, we can appreciate, and acknowledge the amount of time and energy that goes into coordinating campaigns for events like ours.

We want to thank all provinces and their extended supporters for the effort to date in preparation for TTC 2022.

We’ll now plan toward 2023 - returning on Auckland Anniversary weekend.

We’re planning on presenting TTC 2023 from the beautiful Te Tai Tokerau! We’re looking forward to sharing more on that, in due course.

Thanks for your understanding, please take care and look after each other.

Kia ora koutou - we hope this finds you all safe and well. Today, Sport New Zealand released a 'Sector update' which provides some really key details for what the future few months looks like for Aotearoa, as it pertains to sports events. We thought it important to provide a summary of some of the main points for whanau.

As you will know by now, NZ will soon transition from the Alert Level system (what we're in at the moment) to the "COVID-19 Protection Framework" - this is the "traffic light" system.

Events of our size are totally reliant on the guidance of Touch New Zealand, who can only advise best practice based on what Sport NZ outlines. Sport NZ aim to have the new CPF sector guidance published in the week commencing November 22.

This framework will specifically cover how sport and recreation can operate at the three traffic light settings, along with FAQs. This will then allow us to interpret the guidance as best suits our kaupapa.

We are absolutely committed to making TTC happen in 2022, and will do everything we can in order to achieve this. What is released on November 22 will determine next steps, and we will share a further update with whanau on November 29 reflecting this.

If you have any patai, feel free to flick us an email - or contact your province, who will receive ongoing comms from our end.

Nga Mihi,
TTC

PLEASE READ THE FULL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Kia ora whānau — Unfortunately it doesn’t look as though the alert level restrictions will be relaxed enough for us to present the Taiohi Club Classic event, scheduled in December, to the standard we’d planned. Sadly, we have decided to cancel the tournament.

We received a huge amount of interest in this whakataetae, so will absolutely aim to run this in 2022. Thank you to those clubs and kura that registered.

Update on TTC: With regards to the Tamariki Touch Classic (TTC) event, scheduled for Auckland Anniversary weekend 2022 - we are still working through options at this stage, and are optimistic about what’s possible for events of this size in the new year.

We will work with provinces on timelines as soon as we’ve a firmer understanding of what the future holds - we’re hoping this may come following the PM’s post cabinet press conference next week.

Kia ora koutou — our TTC committee met tonight to discuss plans for 2022. There’s a lot of uncertainty around the motu at the moment, so we want to provide as much concrete information as we can to help counter that.

We are still excited about Tamariki Touch Classic 2022, scheduled for January in Auckland.

At this stage, we have confirmation, via EOI, from all Northern Region provinces with the exception of two. They will be reminded tonight, after which we’re confident we will see all ropu that participated this year return in 2022.

We are mindful of the ever changing landscape with regards to covid alert levels and the discussions around what larger scale events will look like in the future. Then there’s the topic of vaccinations and how that fits into the planning and presentation of our whakataetae.

To be clear - we will take advice and direction from Government on all of the above, and will always do what’s in the best interest of our wider community.

In summary - we’re charging ahead. We’re excited about what’s next, & we’ll play the cards dealt by the powers that be.

We hope that equates to TTC 2022 in January!
