Waitere o Whangamata...5 girls from Whangamata Area School, 3 from Opoutere School and 1 from Waihi College are gearing up and ready to hit the waters of Rarotonga to compete in the Matson Vaka Eiva Waka Ama competition, held annually, in Rarotonga next week. Jayda Williamson, Talia Thompson, Kayla Hersom, Taya Davies, Bridie Pugh, Kyarna Gilbert, Brooke Trebilco, Maddie Downs and Mai September-Rawhiri have been tirelessly training, fundraising and being coached by Simone Hughes for months now preparing to make their way over the Pacific. They will be competing against other countries from around the globe and giving their all representing Te Whanau Waka Ama o Whangamata.
We would like to thank all the sponsors and supporters of these girls who have helped to make this happen for them and wish the girls all the best.
