Here is a look at how much rain has fallen in Northland and Auckland over the past 12 hours (from 7pm Sunday to 7am Monday).
Watch Live : https://is.gd/GZpAEN
This is derived from our rain radar with a correction applied using observations from rain gauges around the region.
As you can see there was widespread rain throughout the area of 30-50mm. Thunderstorms embedded in the rain produced locally heavier rainfalls of 70-100mm, you can see the lines of red and pink marking the heavier rainfall produced by thunderstorms tracking in from the northeast.
The heavy rain currently over Northland and Auckland is expected to ease throughout this morning with just a few showers remaining for the rest of the day. This event is not over however, we are expecting heavy rain to redevelop on Tuesday and sink south again so keep up to date with the watches and warnings at https://is.gd/GZpAEN and heed the advice of your local emergency management.
