Hi Rowdy/Bogan

Just wanted to say what a great Nats you guys turned on! Yes the superb weather for all five days was a factor but even if the weather hadn’t delivered, this was a very well organised Nats that delivered in spades.

Hamish also did very well with arranging our access to excellent fields which were very well prepared.
- The Soaring, RC Vintage and I hear RC1 were excellent and well located near each other and not very far from Waipukurau.
- Hamish’s own farm was quite good for Free Flight. We very much appreciated the stock having been moved and electric fences turned off. It was also a fantastic touch by Hamish and Ewan to provide Rex Bain with a farm vehicle for retrieval given he couldn’t use a motor bike on the property for retrieving. This site for Free Flight was a lot better than Matahiwi north of Masterton. The only negatives with it were the Takapau area is typically windier than the more northern area of the Hawkes Bay and this is what we experienced. The winds were generally much lighter at the Soaring and RC Vintage sites in the mornings compared to Galloway’s. The distance between the FF site at Galloways and the other flying sites was also quite significant. If the FF site near the Soaring field being looked into can be accessed, that would be ideal both for travel time and potentially less wind.
- The indoor site was quite suitable. While the gap under the doors could potentially be quite draughty, this didn’t prove to be a problem with the types of indoor classes being flown given the conditions outside. If it did become an issue it would be easy to block any offending draughts.
- It was great to see Aggy flown and given a bit of a nudge with some added value initiatives.
- it would be good to have certificates for the runners up of the main awards, particularly Champion Modeller and Champ of Champs as these are significant achievements.
- It was good to see the local Council involved and supportive. We also found that many of the businesses in town knew we were in town. If Waipukurau is to become a long term Nats venue, perhaps it would help putting together an Economic Impact Statement that could be shared with farmers being approached, local Council, local Chamber of Commerce, Lions, Rotary, etc. If you did want to pursue this I would be happy to help put a draft together.
- About the only major thing needing to be addressed if at all possible is getting a suitable site for Control Line nearby, something I appreciate the organisers have been working hard to achieve.

Overall a big call to move the event from Carterton which culminated in a great Nats due to the hard work and excellent organisation put in by all concerned, particularly Rowdy, Bogan and Hamish!

I would certainly be very happy to go back to Waipukurau for any future Nats.

Thanks again for your efforts!
Stew Cox

This is a warning to those that 'trust' AI. To be honest I was very surprised what AI gave me I asked about the results from the 78th MFNZ nationals (as we were a bit slack with the results links I admit). In the extract below it clearly says "But no flown results are listed on the results summary page right now" - which is clearly incorrect. How can they get it so wrong and its out there for people to use (although they do say that AI isn't necessarily accurate). Will it isn't in this case. Take it down till you get it right.
