The history of the African national Athem that was sung at Africa Day Bay Of Plenty Tauranga 2026.

God bless Africa, Nkosi sikelela Africa. Ishe komborerai Africa is hym written in 1897 by Enoch Sontoga who was South African. 1897 . The hym was later adopted by most Southern African countries a their national and African national Athem. Some Southern countries has gone to create their own national anthems.

About the South African national anthem

South African national Athem was created in 1997 by combining two historically anthems into one. A combination of Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" (The Call of South Africa): Written as an Afrikaans poem by CJ Langenhoven in 1918 and Nkosi sikelela hym written in 1897 by Enoch Sontoga.

Good morning family,
we in desperate search
for passionate BOP African community individuals to join our community group (Ubuntu African Society BOP Inc ) as committee members for the upcoming 2026 - 2027 term.

The committee plays a vital role in governance and some operational duties, e.g., organising Africa Day events, managing or budgeting for events/ activities .

What is involved?

1. Time commitment, 1hr meeting every month
2. Willingness to upskill, take governance training paid by the society or online free training.
3. Involvement in decision making for the best interests of our African community.
4. Conflict resolution
5. Overall Governance role

Once we receive your interest we will send you all the relevant nformation and the Society's constitution.

Key roles open: President, Secretary, Treasurer, General Members, Youth representatives for Rotorua. Tauranga and Whakatāne.

Term length: 18 months
You do not need previous board experience to serve your community. We just need your unique perspective and a willingness to be a team player and make a meaningful difference in our community. All new committee members will be well supported to settle in their new roles.
